I set up another Goofbid snipe yesterday - the snipe worked and I won the item - so it's not failing across the board.

However, I will be considering Gixen now as you have to have 100% faith in your sniper if it's an item you really want.

A small point: You only know you would have won with a failed snipe if the auction receives no bids. In that instance, the item will probably be relisted and you can try again.

Otherwise, all you know is that the winning bid was less than you would have paid, but as you don't know the other bidder's maximum, you might still have lost. The only person that can be pretty sure to have lost out on a failed snipe is the seller (and then they don't know the snipe failed).

Over the years I have used Gixen and Goofbid, I have only had one snipe fail which was with Goofbid but that was last year when they were having server issues, I've had more manual bids fail to register than that (usually due to my incompetence, but sometimes technical issues too). Perhaps the best solution is to use both - you cannot "outbid" yourself. So for something you really must have, snipe with as many tools as you can find, and/or bid manually and accept that some you win, some you lose.

Come on people, it's not difficult: lose means to be unable to find, loose means not being fixed in place. So if you have a hole in your pocket you might lose your loose change.

Thanks for that. I didn't realise that I could use more than one snipe but it makes sense when I think about it as long as both bids are for the same amount.

Just looked at the Goofbid Facebook page - many many unhappy users reporting failed snipes over the past week - I would strongly suggest not relying on Goofbid until they have sorted the ongoing problems.

I thought though that if your bid wasn't high enough then the bid below it would be at the next incremental level? If that makes sense, for example, as my highest bid was £10.52, how come the item sold for £4.70?, surely if that buyer had placed their maximum bid higher than my £10.52, then it should have sold for the increment amount just below my £10.52? Or do I not understand it correctly?

If you set your snipe for £10.52 and the item sold for £4.70 then your snipe definitely failed.

Bit ironic calling the company "goof":

    goof

    /go͞of/

    Noun
    A mistake.
    Verb
Spend time idly or foolishly; fool around.
    Synonyms
noun. fool - booby - dolt - blockhead - nincompoopverb. blunder
