If you do mostly motorways-vectra,mainly A and B roads-mondeo.
Vectras slightly more refined, mondeo handles better.Went shoplifting at the Disneystore today.
Got a huge Buzz out of it.0 -
Can you not hunt around for one a touch younger where it hopefully still has some service and the cambelt has just been done?0

Having driven both, definitely the Mondeo. The Vectra was very dull - granted the Mondeo wasn't exactly setting my world on fire but at least it was a little fun.0

Two very comparable cars that in all honesty, are great, generally unloved, bargains. In real use, the Vectra will be more economical overall, but it really is, despite the entrenched views of either camps followers, just down to the condition of the cars you have in front of you or a flip of a coin.0

If you go for a Mondeo get the 2L. Running costs are almost the same. But the 2L engine is much better.
The best choice for reliability. My old one had 150,000 miles on it when i sold it and still ran like new.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

+1
I've an 08 Vectra 1.8 at the moment that i have for sale but am also driving. Really nice car, so i wouldnt say i'm entrenched. Just that i've noticed more things can be wrong with Vectras of that genre.
Plus they're as cheap as chips.

Is yours an SRi spec Paul?
The brother in law has an SRi spec 2.2 direct, had the usual fuel pump problems but now runs like a charm, was a mete low miler from CarGiant at £6k when three years old, an 08 like yours, had 16k on it when bought, now has 65k i think.
His 2.2 petrol will give nearly 40mpg on a run at a steady 70 "ish!"
They are underrated indeed the last of the Vectras.
Perhaps they suffered due to the hammering they took from Clarkson and the rest of the middle class VW and Audi biased press over the last ten years.0 -

Mines a 1.8i Life. I did a cross deal with it with another trader against an 04 BMW 320d that i had that was unretailable due to turbo problem. Wouldnt be the best spec in the world but it still have electric windows, air con, cruise control, cd player, steering wheel controls, etc, etc. The only thing that lets it down are the black plastic door handles and the lack of alloys. Keeping an eye out for a set of SRi alloys on gumtree and i think i might take the handles off and get them colour coded.0
