I've been informed that Slough is not so good to live...
Does anyone can explain why?
also where do you think I could get a nice place near Slough?
I'm looking for 1bedroom flat or a studio arround 800...
Regards,
I have lived in Slough since last July. I like it a lot. There are some scruffy areas that aren't great but there is a lot going for the place as a whole.
800 as said above should be fine for a 1 bed in a decent part of town.0 -
I work in West Drayton so just the other side of the roundabout from Heathrow. I live in Burnham and it takes me 20 - 30 mins and I work office hours.
If you wanted to look this way then I would look at Burnham, Taplow or Cippenham (which is better value). I personally wouldn't consider Langley or Slough central. Two areas to never ever go to are Chalvey and Britwell. If you do consider Slough then be careful as Britwell never gets a mention by EAs (they fondly call it North Slough) and Chalvey gets lumped into Slough or Cippenham.
I live in Cippenham and can vouch for it as a good place to live. Yeh avoid Chalvey definitely. Britwell from viewings on houses I did was OK but depended on which end. The end nearer Farnham Road wasn't great but the houses and roads around Lynch Hill seemed alright to me.0 -
Everywhere has it's good and bad parts.
Place I can recommend is Ashford0 -
It all depends on how much money you have to spend. Heathrow is about 25 minutes' drive from where I live so I know the towns and roads to the south of Heathrow. Slough is cheap but you have to pick your area as it has a variety of ethnic populations who cling together. Areas are priced accordingly but everything is on the up because Slough is going to be a Crossrail stop. This makes Slough a good investment choice. New flats around the station are well under £200,000. North Slough and Burnham have some decent housing and are close to two of the three Slough M4 junctions. They are also grammar catchments. Just north of Slough are Farnham Royal and Farnham Common, both 'nice', which get more expensive the further up the A355 you go. If you are prepared to travel on the M25/M4 you could try Maidenhead or even Reading. Gerrards Cross and Beaconsfield are bonkers-expensive as they are on the Chiltern Line - but lovely, as are surrounding areas. Happy hunting.0

I moved from West London so at the time didn't know the area well. Britwell tended to get lumped in with Burnham or just called 'North Slough'. The ones I viewed were around Kennedy Park and it was a dump.
I'm selling right now and a lot of people are viewing from London and saying the same that EAs took them to Britwell and it was bad.
I personally would look at the streets around Elmschott Lane or the Cippenham Lane area. Very good value and well connected as well as friendly and safe. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

It was the Kennedy Park area that didn't appeal at all. We narrowly missed out on one off Lynch Hill which backed on to the fields and Woodland towards Burnham Beeches.
We ended up on the Windsor meadows area off Cippenham Lane and we really like it. Handy for our commute. Me to Harrow, OH to Woking and in our spare time love walking over to Windsor and around the Jubilee River area around Dorney and Eton Wick.0
