I phoned for the forms, they asked me a few details and then they told me which ones I needed and they would be with me in 10 days, which was fine with me, I am in no rush.

It's a daunting task, dealing with all of the legal and financial stuff at the worst possible time :( Maybe once your mum's send off is over you'll feel a bit better about dealing with all this stuff

If the estate is under the Inheritance tax threshold you will need form IHT205 and form PA1 which I got from my local Probate office.

Thanks savvy sal for your help, it is under and forms already on their way so will check those arrive. I am expecting them next week so I might be picking your brains a bit more. :o

    Tinyshoes,
My xoh is in the middle of dealing with this right now after his Granddad died late last year. The bank his GD banked with were happy to open a new account in XOH name to use for this purpose. It was easy to set up and I seem to remember, they offered to do this for him so must be a common thing to do.
It also means that "your money" and "deceased's money" never get mixed up so there can't be any lack of clarity in future. He has a cheque book for this account which he has been using to pay outstanding bills and also to put money into - eg council tax refund.
The whole probate thing has been a bit long-winded but pretty straightforward, so I wish you all the best with this as this sad time for you.

    It's only a game

    Morning all!
Can someone please confirm something that is confusing me?
When checking MyS you click the item and it shows you a comparison of other shops...but if you add to basket it differs....which do you use for a targeted shop?

How do you all plan your shops? Use MyS by using the shop you plan to shop in or a competitor by looking at special offers?

Also as I'm hundreds of pages behind again i don't have time to catch up but do we need anything checking in A?

    Afternoon all:), Savvy's back:(.:rotfl:
Just answering this, then going to try to start Tvs M on page 8.

Hi there. This can be a bit of pain. About a couple of years ago, if you put an item into your basket on MSM and then switched stores, it would put the exact same item (assuming it was sold at both stores) into the basket on both stores (own-brands would obviously be the equivalent, the item that had the price that the comparison was showing).

Now however it changes items when you change stores. This is very useful for those wanting the best value item at each store, but in our case - comparing from one expensive store to a much cheaper one - it can be a pain, as you then have to change the item that it is a 'replacement' back to the one you wanted that's cheaper at the competitor. Only then can you see how the total bills really compare.

I start at the competitor to find the items to enter into the basket. (You could do it the other way, but I think it's easier to go through the competitor's 'savvy buys', 'top offers' and, then, if necessary 'under £1' items, and add what you want to the basket, rather than searching at the place you're shopping at and then seeing whether the competitor you've chosen is cheaper. You can also see prices per unit that you're comparing to (and take 10% off them if shopping in A).)

So start at the competitor. Add all the items. Then switch to the store you're actually shopping at. Look at the basket. If any items have been replaced, you'll need to switch (whilst viewing the basket) back to the competitor (unless you know which exact item you put in the basket originally), see which item you originally put in the basket. Switch back to the store you're shopping at - remove the replacement, find the item you originally put in (this time on the place where you're shopping), put it in your basket (number matching any competitor multibuys if necessary/appropriate) and only then is it done. Ignore any 'swap and save' options, as these (very likely) don't save you anything but cost you much more.

In other words, you've told the system you actually do want the more expensive item (at the expensive store), which happens to be because you're doing a comparison shop.

You use the exact items that the rival you're comparing to has on offer or the equivalent own brand. So when you've put an own brand into your basket at the place you are comparing to, and, when you've completed your basket, switch, you'll need to find e.g. A Smartprice instead of T Eday Value (for Avs T comps) or CBY compared to standard T or S, A Extra Special instead of S Taste the Difference/T Finest. Or vice versa - except that S Taste the Difference, you'd never buy (unless it was cheapest and there was no equivalent available) as own brands are excluded in Sains BM.

If you're shopping on the Sains. scheme, you may need to keep switching between Sains and the competitor and back again, if it hasn't added the same item into Sains that you've entered in whichever of A or T you are comparing to, in order to see that the Sains bill is £20 or very just over, and the difference to the competitor when you've put the correct item (not any of MSM's replacements) into the shop. You can see the difference more easily by printing your basket - or rather by going to print your basket but cancelling after you've seen the difference amount that comes up on the previous screen.

Then there are items that actually are available at the competitor (to which you are comparing) but only showing on MSM for the place you're shopping at. This is actually even more the time-consuming area - you then have to put the right item (item that is wrongly giving N/A for the competitor) into your MSM basket (at the place you're shopping at) but then will have to do the difference calculations manually. Good luck! (This is for T PP or Sains BM shops as they don't use MSM for their prices. Technically, after you've completed your basket on MSM for them, you need to go to the competitor website and check everything on there - and often you'll fail to find an item that MSM has, in which case (on BM) it's usually back to the start I'm afraid, as may want £20 vs £10. I say 'usually' as sometimes there are items that aren't on a.com or t.com (shopping at Sains.) for me, but which I know do compare to the a.com/t.com price on the BM scheme. It's then back to that laborious manual calculation.)

Hope this helps a lot. (I'm sure it does.:D)

I was fine until the cheque arrived, was only expecting bills, and have had one already.

I guess I might have to wait until probate is granted to bank the cheque.

I am hoping bungalow will be sold by Christmas, I don't want to delay too much as longer it goes on will be harder to let go. :o

Just want to say a big thank you to Flo for the shaving foam. I love these little glitches. I think A have paid me to take them away:A

also just to let you know. Anyone shopping T, the Lotus biscuits don't compare, neither do the magi chicken and leek potato bake and the magi apple and sage pork. So none of these mess up your PP

I know exactly where you're coming from there. I honestly feel like a weight has been lifted since I sorted the house out. Id got a bit stuck with closure and moving on.

Squills is there any mileage in buying the T visa gift card to get extra points and bump the shop up to £60?
