I'm looking for some new rear tyres for my car (Octavia), which in a fully loaded state should be inflated to 45 PSI. I've been looking at various tyre buying websites but I've yet to find one that lists max. inflation pressures - does anyone know a reliable site that gives this information?
Buying on load index and speed alone doesn't seem sufficient as I've had some of the right type (205/55R16 91V) that go up to 51 PSI, and others just 40 PSI.
Thanks for any help.

If you're this fussy about your tyre pressures, and can feel the difference, then I would suggest filling the tyre to what the CAR manufacturer recommends for whatever load your carrying, as a starting place, without exceeding what the TYRE manufacturer states as a max. 40 PSI seems high to me, never mind 51, your spine will give up long before the tyres do.
What tyres are you looking at? If they're cheapos there's no point worrying about all this!0 -
I would shortlist a bunch of tyres that you're interested in, and then send an email to the site selling them.
Alternatively, go down to your local tyre shop and ask. The max pressure is printed on the sidewall of the tyre.0 -

I'm confused, that's exactly what I'm trying to do??? Or at least buy a tyre that is capable of being inflated to the pressure that the car manufacturer states. I have no intention of inflating a tyre to whatever the maximum pressure is just for the sake of it. The vast majority of the time the tyre in question would be inflated to 29 PSI.0 -

That's probably what I'll have to do but was hoping there may be an easier way.
I e-mailed Dunlop last night to enquire about their Sport BluResponse tyres as those are top of my shortlist at the moment.0 -
Are you sure about that 45psi?0

I understand people being sceptical as it surprised me too, but the laden rear pressure really is 45 PSI (3.1 bar). Here's a photo of the label inside my car's fuel filler cap (mine is a 1.9/77 kW with 16" wheels):
Some models even go up to 48 PSI! Possibly the high pressure is due to the large boot and the extent to which is overhangs the rear wheels?
When I bought my (used) car from a Skoda dealer it had Pirelli P6000 rears and Firestone TZ300a fronts. I now realise a reason for this was probably that the Pirellis have a max pressure of 51 PSI. I replaced the Pirellis about a year ago (due to a combination of a puncture and their scarily poor wet grip) with some Bridgestone Turanza T001s. The Bridgestones have a max pressure of 40 PSI though and so strictly aren't suitable. At the time I thought any 205/55R16 91V tyres would do and never thought to check the max pressures. My fronts now have about 3 mm tread depth so I plan to replace these soon and put the new tyres on the rear. It therefore seems sensible to try and get some tyres that actually can be inflated to 45 PSI should I ever want to...0 -
I think you need a (written) recommendation from Skoda as to exactly which tyres are acceptable given that very unusual pressure requirement as it seems to me there could be insurance implications - they'll probably say Pirelli 6000 !0

That can't really be necessary, can it? You could easily extend the same logic to people buying tyres for any car.
Dunlop have got back to me about their Sport BluResponse tyres and apparently these have a max. pressure of 51 PSI. So I think I'll go with these unless others really think I need to be checking with Skoda for some reason?
