Water debt, gas debt, electricity debt, struggling on job seekers allowance, budget loan to repay, what made you think it was a good idea to buy a £500 HD TV ?

I'm not judging, i just find it really difficult to understand your thought processes. Why not ask if you can send it back ?

I suppose what you said really makes sense.. As I said, my son really wanted a "3D TV" & I really didn't want to let him down, he's 6 it gives him something to go in school and talk about to his friends!

I should of used my brain instead of thinking I could afford to pay this back ( Which I really can't )

Oh & they will not take the tv back, as it came from a different company not Paybreak it's self they just pay the money to "GimmiTech" & they wont accept the TV back "USED" as it says in their guidelines.

I really screwed my self up here then... I dug my self into the hole... I have no option but to dig my self out of it.

  • My honest opinion I'm sure they are some genuine people here who actually try to help. Others... you're trolls.

I come here for help & all you do is "QUOTE" what I say. It makes me giggle really, but I'm sure you're giggling too... so it's cool.

    Unbelievable isn't it.

My 11 year old wants a Porsche, guess I better cash in the Premium Bonds, so he's popular with the cool kids.

I'm afraid you won't make many friends in this part of the MSE forums with such a cavalier approach to finances.

Borrowing £500 for a 3D TV whilst on Jobseekers Allowance and already in debt with crisis loans and overdue water/gas/electric is bordering on crazy.

Please have a think about if you want to bring your kids up in an environment where their parent lives hand-to-mouth with bailiffs coming to the door etc, and if you decide you want something different try the Debt-Free Wannabee forum. Additionally make sure you are getting all the Housing Benefit/Working Tax Credit/Child Tax Credits you might be entitled to.

To answer your question, though, if you weren't informed about the Direct Debit date then you are entitled to a refund through the Direct Debit guarantee scheme - but this does not mean that the debt goes away; they will simply try to take it again as soon as possible and probably put you into a debt collections environment badgering you for repayment every day.

Well I'm not the one that takes out finance at 39% APR to buy a 3D TV for a 6 year old (who probably doesn't even know what 3D is), when you clearly couldn't even manage to support your family before that. Says something about your maturity and intelligence doesn't it.

At least you can rest in the knowledge that your credit history is now trashed for 6 years (if it wan't already), so you won't need to worry about buying him an iPad when all his mates get one.

Because clearly buying a 3DTV you can't afford to impress your kids' school chums is a hallmark of maturity.

Sell the TV, pay off the debt.

Cancelling the direct debit and claiming back through the Indemnity Scheme isn't going to sort this mess out. It's just prolonging the inevitable. You still owe the money and they will chase you for it.

Call Stepchange for advice, you are in a deep hole and won't get out of it on your own. No offence but buying an HD TV to impress a 6 year old isn't what sensible people do. Time to grow up and face the music.

I completely agree with what you have said, time to grow up though. I'll tell you, I've had a life other people haven't but let's not go into that subject :)

Thanks, I will call them... I am in a deep hole which I completely agree with I do need help & I will ask for it and no offense taken either.

    Appreciate the support.
