I'm afraid you won't make many friends in this part of the MSE forums with such a cavalier approach to finances.
Borrowing £500 for a 3D TV whilst on Jobseekers Allowance and already in debt with crisis loans and overdue water/gas/electric is bordering on crazy.
Please have a think about if you want to bring your kids up in an environment where their parent lives hand-to-mouth with bailiffs coming to the door etc, and if you decide you want something different try the "LINK" Debt-Free Wannabee forum[/URL]. Additionally make sure you are getting all the Housing Benefit/Working Tax Credit/Child Tax Credits you might be entitled to.
To answer your question, though, if you weren't informed about the Direct Debit date then you are entitled to a refund through the Direct Debit guarantee scheme - but this does not mean that the debt goes away; they will simply try to take it again as soon as possible and probably put you into a debt collections environment badgering you for repayment every day.
I know the debt wont just go away, it's my own fault it's happened I can't just get rid of the debt, ( well unless I declare my self as bankrupted which is £90 )
& yes correct, I wouldn't like bailiffs coming to the door hopefully that doesn't happen but if it does I'll simply have to tell them I'm not going to let them in. I'm up to date with all the benefits, & what I can and can't claim.0 -

Sell the TV, pay off the debt.
I don't need to buy "THINGS" to impress my kids. It was just my idea... it has none of your business really... All I'm doing is sharing how the problem started I didn't tell you to judge it ( Which obviously you're going judge as you are doing so anyway.0 -
Sorry Aberystwyth but you have to be a troll.
Someone in genuine need of help would not post stupidly like you on here.
eg a 20 year old mum with a 6 year old - started early didn't you?
Please go away and waste somebody else's time.0 -

This is going to be a classic thread / mum/dad since they were 14 deeply in debt and buying luxuries on insane credit for a 6 year old to impress their school friends.
I think I've seen this family on Jezza.:rotfl:0 -

It may have been your idea, but it is possibly the stupidest idea I've ever heard. This thread has now, finally, destroyed my faith in people en masse being anything other than a bunch of idiots. Well done.urs sinserly,
