The last batch of yoof CVs that DH had to read over were appalling.
Where there wasn't text speak there were howling grammatical and spelling errors on every single one - and DH rejected the lot.
He's also interviewed youngsters who 'won't do' shift work because they want 'chillin' time' - seriously.
This country is raising a very strange, under-educated and inward-looking generation and it can only be a combination of schools and parenting to blame for their lack of basic life skills.
*Just to add; not aimed at ALL kids obviously!*
I can relate to this were i work.
Apprentices are coming out of their time onto shift work, earning 34k as a starting salary.
They dont want to work weekends, ring in sick between nights claiming they have'nt slept,!!!!!!.Official MR B fan club, dont go............................0 -

They will probably be on MSE soon whining about how high house prices locked them out of the property market. Sigh.0 -

Any sale on ebay with txt speak in the listening is ignored instantly!
On another note though, I do find that the younger are easier to work with in work. They may not have the experience, but they also don't have (and this is purely from my own experience) an entitlement attitude.
I work with around 100 people, directly responsible for 16. The younger ones will always be the ones who will attend out of hours meetings (even if they have kids - I'm talking 20-40 year olds here). They will always cover extra duties.
I just find it far easier to ask a favour when it comes to younger colleagues, doesn't seem to cause such a fuss?
The "problem" I have with the older generation, mostly made up of say 50-65, is they won't do anything that's not "in their contract". They are harder to satisfy when it comes to any health and safety type issues and always seem to use such issues as a bartering point. This is not every worker, but I'm looking at it from a "whole" point.
I dunno, maybe it's just me, but the ambulance chaser statistics also back up my experience, with reported accidents in work as a percentage being higher across the 45-50 and 51-60 age ranges (HSE statistics, available on the web), again, I assume, to tap into compensation or litigation purpose?
I have probably just offended more than half of this board though....which in a weird way, would kind of prove my point!

No.. but the whole board is wondering how the hell you manage 16 employees while racking up 45K posts, running a full-time thanking sockie and scouring the net for doom and gloom.
Who said only women could multitask? :rotfl:0 -

Most of us do sign out from time to do things in the real world, yes.
I know this concept is hard for you to grasp.0 -

I've found that some people know exactly what their job isn't but are rather vague when it comes to defining what their job is. I've worked with all sorts of people - the 'it's not in my contract' mob come from all age groups.
Get rid of them - they just leach their negativity into everyone else. Once they've gone wander up to HR and ask them to sort out the flaws in the recruitment process.0
