As another parent of autistic children, it is so great to read.

I know to some others it may not seem that great a step forward but it is a huge, huge step!

Alas, I have not been able to get youngest to do the same thing, he still won't allow people into the house (not even my parents), let alone be in a party atmosphere...he spent the entire time at my parent's on his birthday in the back room away from everyone, only coming into the room where we all were under duress to open his presents.

If my son had done what your son has done, I would be a blubbering mess and quite rightly too (even if that would completely freak him out), it's such a massive step forward.

You should be so so proud of yourself and your son.

Edit - Oh goodness, I just read that through and I made it sound like the old "my son is worse than yours". I really don't mean it that way. To give balance, I also had a breakthrough with youngest son this week, he has now developed some self awareness...and yes, I did blubber like an idiot :rotfl:
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

What a lovely message. I agree, very heart-warming.

You are such a loving mum, it is to your credit that your son has gained enough trust to push his boundaries.

It shows that it doesn't matter where our children are, it is what they accomplish to their level that makes us parents experience this overwhelming sense of pride.
