Congrats, and many happy returns to your son. Sounds like you're all doing a great job of coaching him to try and deal with everyday situations.

Not a bit of wonder you are so proud of him and wanted to share. Now I think mummy deserves a long soak in the bath to ease her beaten (self-inflicted in my mind) body. :T :T

    Really pleased for you both.
And as an aside what is it with balloons? A chap I know with autism would sell his soul for a balloon, especially if it's a helium one.

I have no idea! He's currently sat playing the original Nintendo console (retro console collector!) with a bunch of seven helium balloons lovingly by his side and they will remain by his side wherever he goes in the house:D :rotfl:

What a Happy Birthday for your son.

You have my admiration for being so thoughtful and making this such a special day and for not having given up.

His response was a well earned payback for you.

This is brilliant news Shegirl. Your son has taken such huge steps forward today and you are right to be very proud of him.

I have worked with children who are severely autistic and the developmental achievements you mention are just incredible.

Give yourself a huge pat on the back as well for being such a great mum to him. It sounds as if he is growing into a really lovely young man who people value and enjoy being around. Alot of that is down to you and all your incredible efforts with him.

I am so pleased for you both. What a special birthday it must have been :)
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.
