Proud mummy!

Had to share with someone!:o

As some of you know,ds is a severe and complex autistic with learning disabilities, sensory processing issues and challenging behaviour. He doesn't tolerate people well and never allows anyone in the house! He is educated in school in his own personal classroom due to all the above.

Today is his 14th birthday (weepy mummy :( ) and he decided to invite a friend of mine:eek: because she always buys him ballons:rotfl: so,after lots of talking and preparing,he decided he wanted two of her children to come (because he wants balloons:rotfl:).A lot of preparation has been done to try it.

So,they arrived and I could honestly cry. They are much much younger (ds is younger than his years) and I managed to get him to greet them (and the balloons:rotfl:) he sat at the dining table to eat with them (eating with strangers is a major issue with him-he has never eaten with other children in his entire school life!) and then the real surprise came when they all started playing and laughing with other with the introduction of a Pinata and it carried on :D:D:D:D

Ok,so they didn't quite understand each other and it was all very daft but he actually enjoyed their company (for a while) and allowed them in :j:T

The kids adore him now, they find him funny and didn't want to leave!!!

No behavioural problems (had that beforehand-ow!).

May sound a bit of a daft one to share, but some will understand the importance of it to me and how special it is :)

A word of warning though...if you buy a Pinata, make sure you have something to hold it,NEVER volunteer to hold it yourself.I got rather battered:rotfl:

Wow, a real achievement for your son, Shegirl. I'm not surprised that you are so proud. It sounds as though the day went well whilst the other children were there, and both of you had a good time (apart from the piñata).

I'm delighted that you had such a successful time :D

You're right to be a proud Mummy, but you should also be proud of the amazing job you've obviously done of being his Mummy :grouphug:

Oh Wow! Well done! You should be a very proud mummy indeed, not only for what he has achieved but for the help and support you've given him to enable this achievement. I hope the rest of the birthday goes well :D

    Really pleased for you both.
And as an aside what is it with balloons? A chap I know with autism would sell his soul for a balloon, especially if it's a helium one.

I understand shegirl - my nephew is severely autistic. I never let it bother me that he wouldn't acknowledge my existence (to the extent that he would actually try to walk THROUGH me). He adored my OH though cos OH looks like the photo of his daddy (who died when he was a baby).
It made me cry the first time he looked at me and smiled!!!!!!!!!! all down to the fantastic work his school (specialised) has done with him! and we find he has a fab sense of humour too (tho its on the wavelength of the old Carry On films! which funnily enough his daddy adored)!
so, are you going to celebrate this landmark moment with a bottle of bubbly? I would!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and you should be proud of yourself too! you haven't given up and you are trying to stretch his parameters! well done Shegirl!
