Flights to Koh Samui

Hello forum,

I am looking to get a good price for 4 people from Glasgow to Koh Samui in early July. I am fairly flexible, can go from the 1st/2nd july onwards. Looking to stay for 15/19 nights, again flexible. We must be in Samui for the 19th July for a family wedding. Best price so far is £850 which is much higher than we would like to pay.

My query is, in you experienced flyers opinion, if I wait out for a deal could it happen? I know you don't have a crystal ball but is it possible? I know it is summer holiday season but only in Scotland for early july so hoping there might be some offers if the flights are not filling up. When i check travel in june i can get to Samui for £600 so wondering if I hang off for around 4/6 weeks that the flights might reduce. We will go via anywhere but would like the shortest travelling time possible. Any advice is most grateful. Willing to stop off in Bkk or even do a package if there is a significant saving.

Many thanks for any replies

What routing are you getting to get the £850 price?

The problem is that Koh Samui is a relatively expensive airport to fly into as it is owned by Bangkok Airways and they don't allow many low cost airlines to fly there.

One option is to get to Bangkok then book a train/ferry package to Samui - however that is slower. Another option is to fly Air Asia to Suart Thani and take the ferry.

However, if you want to save time and fly into Samui then you are going to have to pay for the pleasure. From Glasgow I would suggest Emirates via Dubai to Bangkok then book the flights to Samui separately. If you are going for over two weeks you may have a stopover in London either on the way there or back.

Hi Doshwater, the routing is Gla/Lhr/Bkk/Usm with BA, Eva & Bangkok airways. Trust me when I say I have looked at soooo many options. I have considered the Surat Thani route but would rather fly direct to samui.

What I'm hoping is that people who normally travel to asia in July could possibly advise if they think flight prices might reduce nearer the time. We do normally travel to asia every year but in October so have no experience booking during the holiday period. Family wedding means we are tied.

    Thanks for your reply.

Sorry - can't help with that. I go to SE Asia every October (and often to Samui) precisely because the prices are cheaper then.

Thanks anyway Doshwater. I'll keep hoping that early July might have lots of availability and probably hang off a little longer before booking.

Can't see that routing going down in price. EVA direct from LHR is £570, which is par for the course for a direct flight. Glasgow to Lon return with BA would be around £130 direct. So now you are at £700. Bangkok Airways Samui return flights can be up to £200, but £150 is possible. There is your price.

    Cheers NiftyDigits,

I get what you're saying but what I'm hoping and hoping for is that possibly some other carrier ie; Emirates or KLM who we normally travel with might reduce their fares particularly as Emirates now fly twice daily from Glasgow. Also when I check KLM from Gla/Usm in June it is £600. We are very flexible with routing.

Thanks for that, we have checked out Edinburgh and not much difference to make us do the extra travelling by car. We're only 20 minutes drive from Glasgow airport. If the saving was substantial I'd do it though.

Don't neglect to get a suitable debit/credit card for Thailand. The AEON machines on Samui are in the Tesco and Big C buildings. All the others will take an extra 150 baht per withdrawal, unless you withdraw over the counter, together with your passport.

Bargains to SE Asia look as if they will be hard to come by this year. Many of the European carriers are cutting back or dropping their services to BKK (BA are changing from a 4 class 747 to a 3 class 777 in October with a worse schedule) due to the strength of the THB making Thailand a more expensive destination and the difficulty in competing with the Asia and Middle Eastern airlines on the route.

Over the last few years I've always had 2 weeks in Thailand in October but I'm reconsidering my options this year.
