You got me thinking now Honey, read about it on here, been doing it for years and it seems to work. Half capful of Formil and top it up with vinegar (which I use for cleaning anyway).0 -
Asda sensitive non bio 4kg box, mix it in a dry washing up bowl with one bag of soda crystals. Put it back in the box, the extra goes in an ice cream tub. I use half a scoop for everything. The soda crystals get the washing white/stain free, and clean the machine at the same time - no need for pricey water softener/limescale remover tabs. The last box/bag I bought was 8 months ago and is still over half full. It never clogs the dispenser drawer and is fine for hand washing too, it dissolves well in hot tap water.
Would like to make Gloop but have very limited storage space.0 -
I use aldi gel, it has a dosing thing but I only use about 2/3rds the recommended and everything comes out fine, including DD's school uniform which is just disgusting some days!0

I used gloop for a while, I used an old nappy bucket - would that be small enough? A 4l batch would cost about £1 and last a month or more. I stopped making it when I had a difficult pregnancy and then a very small baby, but she's 5 months now - I need to start again!0 -
I decant biological liquid (bought when it is on offer) into an old French's mustard bottle, and give a quick short squirt into the drawer when I need to wash underwear, and do it on a hot wash. A capful of concentrated stuff is way, way too much unless people aren't using sufficient loo paper.
I put vinegar in washes that include towels to make sure the washing chemical is neutralized so that they fluff up when they dry - a quick twirl in the tumble drier refluffs them after they've got most of the damp out in the fresh air.
I simply can't afford to use the tumble drier as a matter of routine, and it's just too much hassle shoving it in, checking it, timing it, taking it out the minute it's dry to make sure it doesn't crease .... What a faff. I peg it out and bring it in if it looks like rain - and I often leave it out overnight.
Mainly thought, I use soap nuts. A big bag cost me £10 on Am@zon a year ago and I haven't even made a dent in it yet. We live in a neutral water area, neither hard nor soft, and I can use the same five shell-halves at least four or five times. I absolutely love them.Better is good enough.0 -
I'm not very thrifty with washing detergent
I buy Surf or Arial / other brands like that, but only when they're on offer. I use powder, and usually get the biggest boxes when they're half price.
I also use soda crystals to try and limit the amount of powder I use! I like to use a lot, I love the clothes to smell nice so I'm probably too extravagant.____________________________________________

I use powder, non-bio Persil and Tesco own brand bio.
I'm amazed that such a high number use liquid - I didn't expect that!0 -
I use soap nuts. We're in a hard water area but they're great even with my two young boys covering their clothes in food, mud and grass every 5 minutes.0
