I just got one of these accounts. They asked for no identification or proof of who I was... I heard nothing in fact for about a week then all of a sudden a card arrived in the post, followed by notification of an overdraft facility and then a pin number... a little surprised/concerned at the lack of checks!
i promise you its nothing untoward
but could i ask you what the first 6 numbers are on your card 475139 are mine and i'm wondering if i have the full account that allows you to withdraw money from overseas ATM amongst other things.
I'm quite suprised i have the full account when i phoned last week i was informed i would only get the cashcard+ but they would upgrade it after 6 months if i ran the account well. But the CS couldn't find my application so maybe she was mistaken.0 -

They would have thoroughly checked you out electronically with organisations such as Experian, Equifax, Call Credit, CIFAS, Electoral Roll etc.0 -

i'm not sure whether the differnce from 39 to 45 is significant hopefully not and both are the same offline debit cards.
when i'm able to log onto my online account i'll probably know more.0 -

Have you not been accepted for a Flex account then surely it will be an offline card unless of course you applied for the cashcard account.0 -
sorry to come back to my old thread but i've now got my online flex account up and running and transfered money from natwest to my nationwide account.
can anyone think how i can find out if the card is indeed an offline card without actually using it on a train or pay pump ? are all nationwide debit cards offline ? I'm considering phoning CS tomorrow but i'm not sure if they will understand the terms offline or online card. I don't have an overdraft but neither did natwest when i first applied and now i have a good OD limit which i never use. any suggestions ?
edit yes its a debit card flex account not a cash card.0 -

You take alot of convincing you do!!!
Nationwide only does the online card in the form of their Cashcard
Which you don't have.0 -

thanks for the reply felix and yes i know i doi began to think again as i haven't got an overdraft on the flex account thats not a problem for me as i don't use my other one but that made me think it was an online card but dressed up as a debit card. thanks for the reassurance :T

What does the website say if you go to ask for an overdraft? If it immediately says your account type isn't eligible, it thinks you've got a basic account."It will take, five, 10, 15 years to get back to where we need to be. But it's no longer the individual banks that are in the wrong, it's the banking industry as a whole." - Steven Cooper, head of personal and business banking at Barclays, talking to Martin Lewis0

it says this account isn't eligible for an overdraft facility or similar words to this. i've given up understanding it i'll probably try it sometime on a train when its not too busy. but it is a debit card not a cashcard.0
