I've already phoned last week regarding my account and CS said everything had gone through she even gave me my customer number but i can't log on as i need a card to register. I did mention providing the ID information but then at the end of the conversation she concluded it by saying that all i was now waiting for is my delivery of the card which can take 7-10 days but assumed she'd got confused as they haven't even sent me a request for further information yet.
In many cases their checks can all be done electronically, with no need for sight of your ID.
You may well have to send a specimen signature (I don't remember as it was a good while ago) but I definitely didn't have to supply them with any copies of ID and I had never been a Nationwide customer before.0 -
that was my experience in opening other bank accounts its done online but from previous posts i did see other new members had to send some ID to nationwide but that could also be done in branch. maybe i am just waiting for the info pack to arrive along with the card. i'll wait until thursday if nothing has arrived by then i'll phone the freephone number typistretired supplied. I used the 01793 number last time. thanks for the reassurance and information.0

It was over two years ago I opened the account but I definitely know I didn't have to provide ID.
I didn't use the account in the end, they only supplied me with a Cashcard+ but in fairness I didn't elect to fully switch my account to them so I don't really blame them.0 -
well i didn't have to provide any other information as today i received my nationwide card and its the blue one and says flex account debit card does this mean its a debit card or the cashcard plus in disguise ? it begins with 4751 so assume its not a full debit card and won't work at pay pumps but i'm not that bothered hopefully in time as natwest did they will upgrade my card and account. i've registered for the online service i have to wait 3-5 days for the passcode.0

That is a full Visa Debit card so you will also qualify for 'extras' if you transfer your account.
The Cashcard+ issued with the Flex Account actually works at Pay@Pump too!0 -
No i didn't transfer anything but i will be using it regularly so hopefully they will add those at a future point. so will this work on trains ? 4751 is the same starting number of my old natwest blue account thats now been upgraded to purple after help from a friendly money saving expert person :-) the blue one wouldn't let me do this so assumed it was the same.0

I wouldn't take too much notice of the first 4 numbers when comparing cards with other banks, it means little in regards to whether a card is online or offline.
Unless something has changed at Nationwide your new blue card should be a full offline one, they issue Cashcard+ to people who don't qualify (that's why they specifically mention 'Visa Debit' to qualify for the Flex extras).0 -
oh thats good news then :beer:0

I just got one of these accounts. They asked for no identification or proof of who I was... I heard nothing in fact for about a week then all of a sudden a card arrived in the post, followed by notification of an overdraft facility and then a pin number... a little surprised/concerned at the lack of checks!0

Nationwide 4751 is an offline debit card as I have one with my Flex Plus.0
