Ooooh! I'll have a look out in Somerfield, thanks emg!

Failing that, I think I shall hunt down some reusable silicone muffin cases and use those as dividers in my existing lock'n'lock lunchbox. A bit more MSE than a fancy new lunchbox, no matter how cute it is :o

I know you can get the reusable muffin cases from Ebay for £1.99, although postage is £2, so is worth a look around! Would love to know if you find any good, cheap ones :)

ka7e, I loooove the 'lunch in a box' LJ, am so addicted, although a lot of the time I like Bugs food more than his Mums! Hehe.

Am trying to find a decent little bento box of my own... am not sure whether to check out the pound shops or just get a sectionned Lock n Lock... or get a super cute one from Ebay.... decisions, decisions!!

Hehe, did you manage to get one? I'm still debating whether to buy one on Ebay or not, I'd love a Hello Kitty one but think the other teachers would laugh at me!!

I'm debating getting one of these for myself....

The 'D' one, the 1litre model which I think'll def be sufficient for me to use :) Although, does anyone know anywhere that'd sell them (in East Sussex) so that I wouldn't have to trek to Eastbourne (my nearest Lakeland) or shell out for one in one of the Japanese shops in Brighton? I migth end up looking for one in Brighton tomorrow, wish me luck!

not sure if we are allowed to post images but am very excited as I have now packed my first 'bento-style' lunch in my new Somerfield box. It's not at all authentic as none of the food is japanese but i'm still looking forward to showing it off to my work colleagues!

Oooooh! Yummy lunch! That's why I want one of these boxes - it'll encourage me to be more inventive with my food and let's face it, pretty food always tastes nicer ;)

Does the box have some sort of divider in the middle to keep your choccie bits out of the pasta?

I went to my local Somerfield today to see if they had any, but I couldn't find them anywhere. It's quite small, though.

Have clicked on some of the links and all those fresh colourful lunches look really yummy.

Does "Bento" describe the compartmentalised box or the style of food ? I have compartment lunchboxes for my kids' school lunches that I got from Tupperware (not sure if they are available in the UK). I know Tupperware is expensive, (but the MSE part is the life-time warranty...). The box is divided into 5 sections of different sizes and the lid is ridged in the same pattern so that each compartment is sealed and food doesn't travel from one section to another.

They are very popular at our school due to the no-rubbish lunch policy that has come in as part of the "sustainable schools" certification.

I used some thin slices of cheese to divide my pasta and lettuce (I hate when lettuce goes soggy!) The blue top tier has built in dividers into 3 bits and has it's own lid. The green layer stacks on top of the blue one and then the lid has flaps on the side to clamp the two boxes together. I used cake cases in one of the bits to separate my choccie fix from some croutons.

A lot of people on the bento live journal use divided tupperware, I think westernised bento is about being all divided up with several different foods and taking time and care with presentation. For Bento purists though, the types of food probably need to be more authentic (japanese).

I got a lot of information from this site...

i found my box in a medium-sized somerfield on an end shelf with some picnic stuff.
