I think (unless you really want a pair) you'd be drawing more attention to your legs wearing white boots or shoes. I think a normal pair of boots and a very long skirt would be best and if not too hot some knee-highs to cover them. I'd go for something floaty. The SimplyBe skirt is ok but I think the Wallis one would be too clingy.

White shoes are not suitable for a traditional professional environment. Your best bet would be to buy some black pressure stockings and only wear the white ones when you wear trousers with suitable black socks/tights to cover the join.
  • Long trousers, high boots and / or covering tights?

If you're going to go for high boots - try to avoid looking like Kalinda Sharma. Unless you're an investigator obviously.

I agree about the Simply Be skirt (yes) and Wallis (no).

TBH, I wouldn't wear a striped (especially horizontal) skirt or dress in a viscose/elastene mix unless I was a size 8 (I'm not) and had a pert bum. :)

Lucky for you, maxi skirts are in and in a plain colour you can put them with a business-like top for work.

For casual, same but maybe patterned or a maxi dress.

Perhaps check out Primark, they have a lovely white/black (monochrome is also in) maxi dress in.

    Both will cover your stockings.

Maybe wear your skirts & dresses with a pair of ballerina pumps.

I wouldn't want to wear 'proper' boots in summer, unless you're slightly quirky dress-wise (I am) and would wear patterned converse-style canvas boots.

Dying them is also a good idea. I'll give it a go on some of the older ones. Thanks!

Dylon do a cold water dye, there will be a high proportion of elastane in your stockings so I'd go for a whole tin for one or two pairs to get a decent depth of colour. If you have a really old pair that's past wearing cut them up and use for test strips. You won't get strong colours, you'll get beige stockings from brown dye or lightish grey from black dye.

Or you could try dipping them in very strong tea, this will wash out but it gives a subtle colour.

Can't you get a prescription from your GP to get some beige coloured tights?

I have to wear Class 2 compression hosiery and I have a prescription from my GP so only pay the prescription charge.

You could also try Daylong, who do a mixture of different compression hosiery in different colours at varying prices.

I tend to wear long skirts and trousers so they can't be seen but they do help my leg.

    Good luck.

Firstly, I can totally understand why you'd choose to wear skirts over trousers after what you've been through my Lovely! :) I've just had a quick look at the Maxi skirts on the Very website and there are several nice, well priced skirts on there that'll be suitable for work and casual wear. :)

The shoes you linked to are nice (I like the first 2 pairs of pumps and the heels with the little flower on more than any of the boot options) but I'd be careful with anything with holes in since you said there are blue stripes on the heels of the stockings!

If dyeing the stockings doesn't go well, wear pop socks over the top to tone down the bright whiteness of the stockings. :) Or you get some fabric pens and doodle all over them and make it a fashion statement! :D
Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!

  • My friend has to wear them and she tends to wear ankle boots and either long legged trousers or skirts. The further down the boot the trousers/skirt sit and no-one will notice.
