Hi all,
I was hoping the lovely ladies (and gents) here could help me with a little problem I have.
I have to wear white pressure stockings for the next 3 months, and I can't work out what type of shoes to wear with them, without them looking totally naff.
I work in the city, so I like to wear skirts (long ones) and trousers and when wearing a skirt I can't decide what shoes to wear. The stockings are full length, over the toe, with annoying blue stripes on the heel. Today I wore a long skirt, with brown boots, but the white stockings are not really hidden, and looked terrible when I walked.
I'm looking at buying this skirt
SimplyBe, or Wallis and I think with a smart top they will be fine for work, but no idea what shoes to wear.
Also, for casual wear, with shorts, or summer dresses, does anyone have some ideas of what shoes I could use. I don't expect the stockings to ever look fully normal, but perhaps to at least not instantly look really strange.
I'm 36, and on the fuller figured size (about size 16-18) so I want something that looks professional and not too old.
Any ideas?!

Is there any reason why they are white? Do you have to wear them during the day
Hubby has to wear them as he has lymphodema (sp) but his are black. Ok, it's fine for him as he wears trousers - well jeans for work (site foreman) but he has to wear jeans all year round even if it's stinking hot.
He's supposed to wear them all day but if we are on holiday and he wants to wear shorts, he has bare legs during the day, but wears them overnight instead.
Whislt I appreciate that wearing boots/trousers all summer may not be your idea of heaven, teamed with a short sleeved top, it may just work as I tend to wear trousers all year round more or less every day even in the summer.
I have little black ankle boots - so are not full length and don't make my feet sweat or anything.
Just some thoughts..0 -
Hi,
Thanks for the response. The doctors have said to keep them on in the day, and off at night when my legs are raised. To be honest if I don't wear them my legs do seem to get sore, and my feet start to swell, so I'd rather wear them if I can. I have skipped the odd day for special events, but most days I will wear them.
They are white because that is what I have been given. I have one pair of tights in a nice enough skin colour, but they were £100!
It's more the day to day options that I'm thinking about. I can wear trousers, but I've had another operation on... ahem... an area that makes it nicer to wear skirts if I can for the moment!
I'm wondering if there are white ankle boots that don't look too much like I should be in a rodeo. Or can you wear coloured closed toe court shoes without them looking horribly like I got dressed in the dark??
ETA: Any opinion on these shoes??

I have no experience of these but would it be possible to wear thick black tights/stockings over the top of them to disguise them.Thrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End

hun I would wear boots. During the sixties or was it the seventies(?) there was a fashion for white boots - some of them had a sort of white leather 'shoe part' with lacy stretch tops - look in retro stores or on ebay and you may find some. they would look brill in the summer. if the weather isn't too hot then you could wear a high denier tights over them if you want to wear a skirt and normal shoes.0

Then really you have to get some boots that are long enough to meet your skirt.
I know what you mean about leaving them off though - hubby gets his cankles back after a few hours! He didn't have a choice about the colour - they just gave him black but his are specially made due to him wearing steel toed boots for work every day - normal ones just wear out within two weeks!
What about some maxi dresses which are more or less floor length? you could probably wear normal flat shoes underneath and no-one would see the socks.0 -
Depending on what they're made of you could dye them. You probably won't be able to dye them black but a beige shade should be possible. Or can you not go back to whoever supplies them and tell them that you need a work appropriate pair, in black perhaps? You presumably get given more than one set for washing purposes and more when the lycra in these ones starts to bag so make sure the extra pairs are more suitable.
Otherwise ankle length skirts in lightweight, summery coloured fabrics with flat pumps or Mary Janes, in pale canvas or leather. High heels and white stockings will look a bit Pin Up Nurse, dark shoes and white stockings will just look awful.Val.0 -
I'd go for some opague black tights or pop socks to go over the top, they don;t need to be thick, but should disguise the white flashing ankes!0

Thanks - some great ideas!
I always associated white shoes with weddings, but actually some of them actually look quite cool. I love the retro vibe ones, although some are very expensive!
Ok -for flats, what do you think of these? Flats
or
crochet
Valk You are right about the dark shoes white socks thing. I just needed to be told.
Some slightly fun heels Not too weddingy??
When I googled retro boots I got these. Lovely... but pricey!

zipBoot These look reasonable now compared to the ones above.0 -
Dying them is also a good idea. I'll give it a go on some of the older ones. Thanks!
I have about 10 pairs from the hospital, which will do me for as long as I need them (only another 3 months or so) so I'm not too keen to go sourcing new ones.
Time to do some fun internet shopping! Just got to distract DH while I quietly sneak the credit card from my wallet.

Minor aside - I think these are the ugliest shoes I have ever seen.
