If you can catch him you local vet will be able to check if he has a microchip (I believe they don't charge, not sure though because I've never done it myself).

You could leave food out at his old house, if he is going back there as its familiar, once hes fed he will keep coming back.

Theres a missing pet register, they have a twitter account and a webpage, thats what its called, missing pet register, you could put his details on there.
  • Thanks Pauline I have used the website but the twitter account is playing up atm.

But thinking back I saw a removal lorry out the back of the house at least 2 months ago ,before we got all that snow, surely they would have come back and tried looking for him at their old address. I dont know though, I will keep contacting vets and CPL.

Maybe they have but it has taken him a month/six weeks to get "home"?
  • Have you tried contacting Woodgreen Aminal Shelter. I know it's not perhaps the nearest to you but when I lived in Whittlesey they were excellent when it came to stray cats and dogs.
I eventually got my rescue dog from there (though sadly he wasn't with us for long due to health issues) and the staff were AMAZING!
Everyone has a dark side... apparently mine is called Harold?!?

Finally plucked up the courage to knock on the neighbours doors next door to where he used to be looked after. She said his owner has died and advised me to 'shoo him away'
It's unbelievable no-one in this street seems to care. so I'm feeding him daily and have called him 'Raggy' my cats dont seem very impressed and I think I'm getting a reputation round here for being a crazy cat lady.:D

Please take him in and look after him. It might be the only chance he gets for a nice life. I can see you care for him.

This is very important. By feeding the cat, you are taking responsibility of said cat. Throw a collar on him with your phone number, and consider that he will need attention, if you don't take him home, and you go away (planned or otherwise)

If he's emaciated enough to notice, then he's not getting [strike]much food[/strike] enough food on his own, so will rely on you at all times to provide him food. Not trying to put you off, as you have cats and know what it's all about, but more to think about if he remains out and about, with you feeding him daily. Too many times people take on strays (feeding and such outside) then they move on, but don't move on with the cat, and the cat is in the same position, with no one else to love or feed him.

*takes off the serious hat* To hell with a few cats, more the merrier! Just take him home with you, see if he'll move in fine with the others, if not see if you can encourage him to stray around your area so you can feed/keep an eye on him better. But still collar and tag him, and get a vet check up/microchip scan.
  • what i would do is take him to the vets, sudden weight loss, etc could point to a serious health issue like felv or feline aids etc.

so if you take him home quarantine him right away, and take straight to the vet for health check and bloodwork, and be prepared if the results are not good.
