Abandoned Cat

I think neighbours (not immediate neighbours ) have moved out and abandoned their cat there.
He's gorgeous and I used to see him occasionally, he was quite chubby and I think he just used to stay outside, but at least he was fed. now when I went out today I saw him emaciated and starving he was really crying too it was hearbreaking. I stroked him and could feel his backbone.
As they are not immediate neighbours and I usually go out another route I havent noticed him before. but whilst out I bought some sausages and gave them to him on the way home. it appears he is living in the bush outside his old home. I didnt knock but it definitely looks empty although there is a net in the front room window.
I cant understand this, they have just left him to his own devices they obviously cared about him once as he used to be well fed.
The surrounding neighbours dont seem very friendly and I darent ask them anything.
The RSPCA where I live do not collect 'healthy' stray cats.I have rang them and the local cats protection is overflowing.
I dont know what to do I cant have him here as I have 5 cats.

Whereabouts are you? Have you tried any other rescues?0

I live in Peterborough. I will definitely start ringing around and I suppose I will just have to keep feeding him in the meantime. its really sad to hear him crying for food.he ate the sausages so quickly I thought he was going to choke.0

Just keep feeding him ever day. If he's lucky someone else in your neighbourhood might adopt him if you really can't. At this time of year being outdoors 24/7 won't necessarily be a danger to him. Poor little puss.0

That poor cta, loved one minute and abandoned the next.I do not know how people can sleep at night doing that.
There is one possibility though.Maybe he was taken away with them but has come back to this old home.I wonder if you could see if he has a microchip and could trace the owners?0 -
Some people make you sick don't they, my daughter aquired her little cat when her neighbours moved, just her luck she was pregnant too.
luckily she found homes for them.

Keep feeding him and tbh I would think about taking him in, even in the short term, you could be saving his life.
I have 6 cats and I never set out to have 6. When I hit 4 I thought thats it but then I took in another 2 as a favour to someone who was moving to a flat where he couldnt take the cats.
Mine all get on ok and Im in a flat and they dont get out and yes Ive known people to up and leave cats behind, thats how I got one of my cats and my mum took in a cat that was also left behind when people moved away.
If you really cant take him in leave some food and water outside for him and at least you know hes getting a meal.0 -
thanks so much everybody! I couldnt find him this morning I expect he's gone further afield looking for food. I know its daft but I was worrying about him all night.0

I don't think you should assume the cat has been abandoned. More likely it escaped from its new home if it was so well-cared for. Contact local vets, CPL, radio etc and see if they can find the owners.0

You might find someone local who is able to help through facebook (e.g. cat protection pages), or forums (e.g. catchat, petforum), I've seen cats in bad conditions being rehomed or at least fostered this way0

But thinking back I saw a removal lorry out the back of the house at least 2 months ago ,before we got all that snow, surely they would have come back and tried looking for him at their old address. I dont know though, I will keep contacting vets and CPL.0
