My cats are indoor cats, Im on a main road and its not safe to let them out.
I was refused by cats protection to give a cat a foster home (that was back in the day when I didnt have as many cats), because the cat would be an indoor cat.

When I went to the SPCA they ask if you have other cats, they dont ask if you have a cat that will be indoors or outdoors.

Personally I dont think animals should be on sites such as freecycle or gumtree but its a shame when people need to go to those lengths to get a pet.

There's a rescue place in Bristol that won't let you have a cat if you live in rented accommodation.

Leicester area? Have you tried Leicstershire Animal Aid? Sue the cattery manager is lovely.
I'm never offended by debate & opinions. As a wise man called Voltaire once said, "I disagree with what you say, but will defend until death your right to say it."

It is frustrating to be refused a cat based only on location, although I can see it from the rescues' perspective too. It's absolutely heartbreaking to pick up RTA cats: it's not always a quick and painless way to Rainbow Bridge. :(
I don't volunteer for a rescue any more, but even since leaving, I've picked up 5 moggies to take to a vets for ID. None of them made it and each was on a busy road. :(
Op, can you request a home visit from those rescues? Sometimes showing your home and location in situ can result in rescues re-thinking an initial refusal.

How frustrating to have a loving home waiting & not being able to find anyone to help.

I am in the Manchester area & there are so many stray cats in need of a warm lap & a cuddle. if anyone can offer a home to a black friendly tom cat please let me know, i am feeding him but can't take him in (only 2 allowed in rented flat) & my boy cat doesn't like him, he just about tolerates him being in the garden, but thats taken months!
Rescue centres won't help, they don't have room & once they know he is being fed they are definately not interested in helping him find his forever home, but i could never let any animal starve on my doorstep.
Good Luck to everyone looking for a furry addition to their family, i hope they find you very soon xx

that could be easily resolved by requesting evidence that they can keep pets, e.g. written permission, or tenancy agreement.
They seem to find excuses for rejecting people.
One of the places I spoke to use Google Map to see where you live, they don't even ask you any questions. I don't think they even got as far as checking us out though.

That's probably why there are so many pets being given away on gumtree...

Have you looked at indoor cats at all? Whether you live on a busy road, or in a flat, it isn't a problem then.
I volunteer with my local RSPCA branch and they regularly have indoor cats up for adoption. Indoor cats can be anything from a tripod, to a blind/deaf cat, a very nervous, or an FeLV/FIV infected cat. I understand the last two won't be an option with you having two mogs already, but it may be an something to look at if you really want a third and want to adopt through rescue :)
  • Have you tried the 'find a shelter' pages on https://www.catchat.org? We live on busy, but semi rural road. We have fields & a wood around our garden but we were turned down by CPL based on a google search of our address. We found a small rescue which only uses fosterers through Facebook but think all their cats are in Essex, don't know if it helps, their called Goldie's Oldies Senior Cat Rescue, but don't be put off as they rehome younger cats too, ours were 1 & 2 yrs old. They actually came to HC us rather than go by address.

That was third on my list! Just below National Animal Trust who have allowed me to adopt a gorgeous little tabby girl, who has the same character as my ginger tom. She is very vocal and well settled in (after about 2 min) in the front room. Now just to get the others very very slowly introduced. It's because of them I can't have an indoors cat.

I just wish these places would use some common sense. Cat RTAs are awful and I would really hope my kitties have enough road sense. I shout at them if I catch them out the front garden so they go home!

Good luck to everyone. Rescues can do a great job, but can also be a real pain. x

PS Swimming pool? REALLY???? They are cats, not unsupervised toddlers!
