Hello.
7 days ago I got a wonderful new iPhone 4s as part of an upgrade with Orange. I've been with them for many years.
Yesterday I took out insurance with mygadgetbuddy.com for £3.99 p/m as it was much cheaper than insuring via Orange.
Then, the nightmare happened. I have just realised I put the iPhone in the washing machine! I managed to stop it about 5 or 10 mins in and it is currently in a bag of rice. I've checked my insurance policy and apparently there is a 14 day 'exclusion period'

There is an initial 14 day period during which, if your gadget is stolen, lost, damaged or breaks down, you will not be able to claim and this is called the “exclusion period”. The exclusion period is:

There is an initial 14 day period during which, if your gadget is stolen, lost, damaged or breaks down, you will not be able to claim and this is called the “exclusion period”. The exclusion period is:
- 14 days after the start date of your policy
- 14 days after any change to your policy in which you add a gadget to your policy or replace a current insured gadget – the exclusion period applies to the gadget you add. "
Thanks!

Hi Albion Rovers.
I was thinking this, but will the be able to tell when the water damage happened?
What do Apple offer in terms of warranty?
Thanks

water = no warranty coverage0

I understand they do 'out of warranty' repairs. Anyone know how much this costs?
Thanks

They do a £129/£139 ish swap out - but its for a refurbished handset.0

I sympathise with your situation, but why would you think that Apple's warranty would cover you against sticking the phone in the washer?
I think that the only thing that you could try - although I'm not advocating insurance fraud in any way - would be to wait until after your initial claim exclusion period is passed, and make a claim.
Expect your claim to be scrutinised thoroughly though, as I'm sure they look extremely closely at claims that are submitted immediately as soon as they're able to be.0 -
~£150

Claim in 8 days as suggested.0 -
Thanks Tony. I in no way thought Apple would cover it, but I had to ask!
I guess I wait another week or get a refurb from Apple.
Thanks

sorry to hear what happed. my partner recently had to get a water damaged 4s repaired it cost £150 for new screen new mic new charger doc and a sound chip. also apprantly they have a panel inside the charger doc and the head phone socket which changed colour when in contact with water to stop people claiming different reasons for break downs.0
