a long hard rethink of 'top rated seller' crtieria needed by ebay

He might have died??? I can imagine if you were the relative of someone who died - try explaining that to eBay customer services.Warning: any unnecessary disclaimers appearing under my posts do not bear any connection with reality, either intended, accidental or otherwise. I am wary of sellers who do not buy anything on Ebay.
I also avoid "top rated sellers" unless I know of them personally which in my niche I often do.
In DVDs I look for a private seller having a clear out and buy all I can of theirs which is of interest.
At first I thought the tide of negs for this seller (OP) was an attack by competitors but looking more closely that seems not to be the case.
For now I just reserve judgement but with this many cases Ebay should step in, contact the seller to find out the problem, and/or shut him/her down completey until things can get sorted.0 -
i've been watching the latest 'seller' closely for the past 10 days. they sell in the same category as me and the quantity of listings multiplied with prices that are obviously too good to be true = loud alarm bell rings.
as of now they have 1,639 completed listings. a handful of those had zero sales or the 'seller' ended. but what about the rest? each 'sold' listing either had a quantity of 3 or 4. so that is roughly anywhere between 4500 - 6000 sales in the past 10 days.0 -
Really? Why?justapoorboy wrote: »I am wary of sellers who do not buy anything on Ebay.
I very rarely buy anything on my main seller account..0 -
Sellers do die.
I contacted a seller regarding an undelivered item recently and had a reply from the seller's son saying that his Father had passed away unexpectedly. He had found my item packed and ready to send in his Father's house.0 -
Apparently buyers can leave what stars they like regardless of whether its actually true or not, so if the buyer is in a bad mood or say wishes they didn't spend the money, they can leave low ratings.
My postage and package charges are identical or a bit lower than most of the top rated sellers charges in the category I commonly sell in, yet I have a worrying postage and packing score.
On everything but P&p my star ratings have no low ratings at all.
Some of the top rated sellers seem to have quite low percentages, don't know why that is allowed either.

.
How do you know they don't buy anything- you surely don't expect a person to be daft enough to buy and sell on the same account?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. No self respecting seller buys and sells on the same account.0
