Block of flats- night time noise help needed

As I already said.
Sorry Jamie 11 didn't see that.
I got bored of the "poor thing you" " how dare he get cross being woken up at 4.45am" posts and skipped to the first postStop! Think. Read the small print. Trust nothing and assume that it is your responsibility. That way it rarely goes wrong.

I have heard back from my landlord today, and they are coming around a week on Wednesday.
I had contacted them about it a month ago, but they were reluctant to do anything as it sounds like he is more sensitive at the moment rather than the floor has suddenly got worse- I certainly haven't noticed it getting worse although admittedly it may sound a lot worse downstairs. The floor has always been creaky, but if you're listening out for it you notice it more. If it's so bad I don't know why he didn't complain before. My landlord also said that they wouldn't do anything unless he made a complaint- which I told him but he didn't do!
I'm only so upset because it is making my health worse, but I am trying to keep calm.
I have done some recordings with my phone on the floor, the creaks sound loud as the phone is on the floor- although my voice speaking softly/normally (I'm not a loud speaker) and the sound of the light switch is much louder. I don't know if my phone will record all night but I shall try, hopefully it won't be necessary anyway.

I think that banging on the ceiling is sufficient to be treated as a complaint.
Your landlord simply wants to avoid the expenses and your concillatory approach " he's just a bit more sensitive" is a licence for the LL to walk away and the problem will just get worse between you and your health will suffer.
Stop being so nice about it and push the landlord.:)
The person below might just be moaning now as he's fed up and had enough.
So go ask him for a letter of complaint and give it to your landlordStop! Think. Read the small print. Trust nothing and assume that it is your responsibility. That way it rarely goes wrong.

I did do in January and he didn't write one. I then later gave him the address to send it to in case he didn't want me to pass it on. I said that the landlord wanted a written complaint to look into it, but my neighbour thinks that I am the problem not the floor and that I should go to bed and stay there at the same time as him.
Anyway my landlord has moved the regular inspection forward to next week so that they can see what's wrong and if to do anything further.
Thanks for the adviceLoving knitting for the Wooligans! :j my totals:

Blimey! Who does he think he is, your father?! He has no business trying to tell you what you can do and when. You need to live your life as normally as you can, you said that his harassment is starting to aggravate your illnesses, have you told him this? If not, I think you should.
If it was me I would be banging right back at him. I have before. I got sick of my downstairs neighbours banging at me for walking across the floor in bare feet after they would play 90s dance music loud enough to rattle the cups in my cupboard. I didnt care about the noise they made as it was generally between 8am and 10pm, but banging at my walking was a right !!!!-take. So when ever they started banging I put my cowboy boots on (heavy solid sole) and properly stomped about (with a few jumps included, as heavy as I could make them). They soon gave up banging.
He sounds like a bully, and you seem very understanding and mild. Bullies see nice people as easy targets, it might be worth trying to stand up for yourself (which I know is very difficult sometimes) and maybe when he sees you're not gonna be walked over he will back off? Don't get scared of him, get !!!!ed off instead! He's affecting your health, he's bossing you around and trying to make you feel guilty. Its not been a problem for 2 years, why all of a sudden now? Tell him where to stuff his complaints. If he wants someone to listen to him, tell him to speak to the council.0 -
Maybe all his banging on the ceiling has damaged the floorboards and is making the noise worse for himself!
Pee in a bucket during the night and slosh it outside his front door in the morning! Then he'll have something to moan about!0 -
Then unless for some reason your gait is a stumbling one or heavy footed, eg arthritis, or you are "huge" then I suggest you start going for walks at night and filming it so the noise can be noted for the landlord to see and for your neighbour to complain.
The simple answer is that you should not be capable of being heard footfall to footfall moving around at night.
If he wont help himself by complaining then carry on him banging on the ceiling only upsets you because you have the mindset that you should be upset. Stop it:cool:
