Block of flats- night time noise help needed
Comments

I will come live with you for a week, I get up 5/6 times a night for the loo and knowone is stopping me. I also have bad hips from my pregnancy and thump a lot! He'd soon want you and your 'noise' back.
Tell him to jog on and buy some ear plugs. If you aim for the moon if you miss at least you will land among the stars!0 -
This is really sad and I really feel for you! Good advice given above I think0

You are acting normally. He is not. Just go about your daily routines as you do normally. If you do need the loo in the middle of the night, go.
Why should this very sad man need to dictate your life like this? Contact the council's environmental health dept.
I would say this on the borders of harassment. As you are acting normal, and he is complaining to you about your normal behavior.
If you were working shifts where you rotate days, overnights and late shifts like 3pm-11pm, then he would not like it.
I would tell him that if he does not like being disturbed like this, move into a top floor flat or a house! Also tell him he is acting like a bully.0 -
So if a person with "nocturia" lived above him he'd expect them to wet their bed each night, would he? :rotfl:
(Yes I do have a reason for knowing what this is, and it's a right pain in the whatsit!)

All I can suggest is that is it possible there is something structurally wrong with the floor causing it to creak? In which case he needs to approach the managing agents for the block whose responsibilities will include the areas between the flats.0

That's very possible, floors should not creak in normal use, maybe a few nails to tighten up the boards would help, even so I agree with the other posters, he's the one with the problem, not you.0 -
My family who live close by unfortunately agree with him- that it would be considerate to go to bed at 11, but that I should get up and walk to the bathroom in the night if needed.
I know I have the right to stay up as long as I want, but that is different to what is considerate to do... but it really annoys me having a bedtime curfew and I find it difficult due to pain etc to stay in bed for a full 8 hours- I wake up in the night. Even more annoying last night as he only got home at 11:10pm anyway... (just 1 day after telling me to go to bed at 11 and that normal people don't go to bed at midnight!)
What I don't want is for him to retaliate by playing loud music during the day (which would trigger my headaches) and I am very worried that he could do this as he has once before after banging one night. He is very quiet normally so I like living here, I really hate that I am being noisy for him. I do of course hear when he turns on his light switch (when my flat is silent) open windows, doors etc- but that is normal house noise.
So I have emailed my landlord again asking if there is anything they can do about the floor. If I have any more complaints I shall tell him to get the council wardens involved to investigate the floor if my landlord won't in case there is something wrong with it and it could be made quieter. He has already said that he is thinking of moving, I just hope his personal problems get sorted out so we can go back to how it was 4 months ago.
Thanks again for your replies- it's good to know other people agree with me.Loving knitting for the Wooligans! :j my totals:

Write to the landlord and ask them to screw (not nail that can still squeak) the floorboards to the joists. Also consider contacting Environmental Health at the local council to mediate. Purchase some wax or silicone (not foam) earplugs.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

Maybe he should be considerate and go to bed later?
Utter rot, you sound absolutely fine. If I were you I'd be tempted to put my Metallica CDs on loudly at all hours, just to demonstrate what an actual inconsiderate neighbour is.0 -
It doesn't matter what your family think -it's what YOU think !
