Can you work with children/vulnerable adults if you have been arrested?

The type of alleged crime is important. I was arrested, charged and found guilty... of cycling my bike in a pedestrianised area. I suspect I'm deemed safe to work with children. Perhaps not to teach them cycling proficiency though.
On a more serious note... I believe it's the case that if allegations have been made against you in relation to crimes against children, this is enough to flag up on a CRB check, even if the case is subsequently dropped. Which I find appalling, frankly."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
I thought it was only convictions that appeared - which was why there was such a problem with Ian Huntley (sp?).
He'd been arrested a number of times, but never actually charged - so his CRB was clear and he was able to get a job at a school.0 -
Just as a side note police formal warnings don't show up on an enhanced CRB check either.0

Perhaps things have changed. The article below is what made me think that these types of allegation remain, particularly this quote:In a final blow, we discover that this allegation will never be wiped from Keiron's record.
and this one:any future police checks on my name will bring up my arrest
