Can you work with children/vulnerable adults if you have been arrested?

Arrested in regards to an allegation is not the same and I don't *believe* it would stop them. After all, they've not actually been proven to something, just might have from hearsay.
CRBs (now called DBS but I don't believe we will ever stop referring to them as CRBs
) which when applied for will ask what the job role that person is going for. That role is what determines what the police declare on the returning form.
I see absolutely no reason for them not to share the information of an arrest if the arrest COULD have an impact on the role they wish to undertake.
A DBS form takes between 3-8 weeks to come back. Would you be confident about Mr Jones fostering children say, 8 weeks after being arrested on the suspicion of rape?
And why would they NOT share this?
Maybe if he is concerned about his work with children / vulnerable people, he could contact the police station and discuss what will show on his DBS now. That's the only way you can get confirmation before a CRB happens.
On the other hand - looking back at some of your posts, if he's currently working with vulnerable people, and isn't due to renew his DBS for a couple of years, he could resign without declaring the information (should it actually show on his DBS and he will get sacked) and take up a profession which doesn't require a DBS check.0 -
If it appears on your CRB, I recommend that when you apply for jobs you include a sealed envelope in which you explain what happened and why you were not arrested. Much better to be upfront (ergo you have nothing to hide) than not say anything and leave people wondering.

Thanks for that info on CRB changing, but honestly it isn't a man I know. My fella has never had a girlfriend before me let alone anything else. Well he did at 14/15 but that was a long time ago!
I know we hear the 'it's my friend' thing all the time but it is genuinely someone I've met through Women's Aid support groups. I think she should ask there as they might know

Just because someone has been arrested and charged doesnt mean they are guilty and doesnt mean they cant work with young people.
People make false allegations. And thats why theres the CPS and the procurator fiscal service in Scotland who actually decide whether charges go any further or whether they are dropped.
There has been more than one case where a teacher has been accused of a crime against a child and some have ended up in court but have been thrown out or a not guilty verdict returned. That shouldnt stop someone teaching or working with kids.
I worked with young people for almost 20 years and there were times where I would have to do one to one work with them and it was always something that could happen, someone could make an allegation against you.
And that doesnt excuse instances where people have been violent or raped and got away with it. But people do get falsely accused and some people can spend a considerable time in prison before being cleared on appeal.
I believe that on a CRB you only need to declare a conviction. Its a PVG in Scotland now, not an enhanced disclosure, but if you have been arrested and charges dropped due to lack of evidence you might show up on a police print out but I think very unlikely that anything would show on a CRB check.0 -
If you are applying for an enhanced disclosure (or whatever the new terminology is)_ there is a saerch of acutal records but "soft" information can also be sought. Might an arrest be one of the pieces of "soft" information disclosed?0

I strongly hope that such a situation wouldn't appear on a CRB. If they haven't been charged with anything technically they're not guilty of the crime, I don't see why it should affect future job prospects.0

I know people who have been arrested and charged with firearms offences that have had crb checks and now work with vulnerable children0

It will probably show up, but not for ever! Here, well the old Police force held intelligence for 10 years.
CRB checks create massive problems for people with minor crimes and want to get on with life. Then we wonder why people re-offend!0 -
I know I was told if you declare it they will take individual cases into account (Ie thrown out of court then fine, made a mistake when 17 and have learnt and never been in trouble since, we'll give you a chance) not mention it and no you won't get the job as you tried to cover up0

That is a pretty accurate summing up of the rules.
Generally better to declare and havve a clear DBS check that not declare and something show up.
The issue may come when someone is employed by a family rather than an organisation that has a proper policy.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0
