Download from iplayer in the UK.
Watch the first 30 seconds of the programme.
Go abroad and watch the remainder with no Problem.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. can any one point me towards setting up a private proxy/forwarding set up for this type use ??????
Ralph:cool:
some routers have vpn built in, mine does and it is very simple to set up, when away i just connect to the internet via my home router.
this works on my laptop and my phone.
my router is Asus RT-N66U0 -
Thanks for all the hints and tips, but I find that most solutions are not free even though they may claim to be. freesafeip can be free but not if you want to use iplayer or anything else in the UK. MediaHint for Firefox or Chrome charges a recurring monthly or annual fee. It seems that setting up a VPN with your computer or NAS at home may be the best free way, though it also seems very complicated. You can subscribe to a VPN service such as hidemyass.com but that's not free either. There's one called freeukvpn.co.uk and this looks promising, though there is a link on their web site for those who "wanna go faster" at £4.99 a month. I'll be off to France for a summer break and will report back on what success I managed to achieve.0

I can't fault TorGuard "Anonymous VPN". About £6 a month but I prepaid for 12 and got it for about £29.
- You can connect to plenty of servers around the world. Watch iPlayer in USA, Hulu in UK!
- You're allowed up to 5 simultaneous connections - most service providers only allow single connection per account.
- I even bought a preconfigured VPN router from them flashed with DDWRT so ALL traffic is routed via VPN (that incldes your PCs, phones, tablets, XBOX, etc.)
- Android, iOS and Windows clients
And if confidentiality is important to you, they don't keep logs!
And I'm a happy customer - I don't work for them!

In a similar vein, I'd recommend "get_iplayer". This allows iPlayer content to be downloaded to an MP4 file for viewing on any device, anywhere.
Content does not expire, but you would be expected to delete stuff you have watched.0 -
There is also another way for the Linux enthusiast, which involves creating your own smart DNS proxy clone of Hola/Unblock-Us, using a cheap virtual Linux server hosted in UK. These cost around $5 per month, and a single server can support quite a few people watching - so if you build one, all your friends can use it
Note, a smart DNS proxy is a better option than a full proxy and/or VPN, because it only proxies application requests and leaves the actual audio/video delivery to happen unproxied, so you get the benefit of CDN caching, etc.
I've written a step-by-step guide on how to implement such a solution in the following blog post:

Thanks for the post. :)Why using a VPN when you can use a DNS service like UnoTelly? The DNS option is much faster and easier to use.:beer:0

New poster, resurrects an old thread and first post is advertising a 3rd party......... Smells fishy to me.
But "why use a VPN?", because within the next 10 years, if we want to access the internet without paying for individual itemised services (more bandwidth for videos, access to certain site, allowed to play online games, etc etc), as well as having unfiltered internet access and absolute privacy online, we're all going to need a VPN.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

I wonder how much gavincredible is getting paid to promote UnoTelly?
He likes it so much, it appears that he's posted on about a dozen TV and media review websites.

I use tunnel bear VPN - it is a paid for service but very cheap and reliable. You can dial into the UK or the USA.0
