Sorry to drag this thread up again but for info I recently went to the USA and can confirm using MediaHint with Firefox allows BBC iplayer to work.

  • Well it does work, I use it to watch some American TV websites that without Media Hint say I'm not in the correct country.

    I suggest trying it!

A search will show that it works for many TV players although I've not yet tried BBC Iplayer in the US,

Well, it's working for me in the US with BBC i-Player, so thanks to all who've suggested it!
  • To add to my previous post, Media Hint & Firefox are working well for me in the US, with the sole exception (so far!) of Channel 5, which still comes up with the 'Not Where You Are' message.

I've not found any problems with slower downloads or responses - but if this should be the case, I suggest simply disabling the add-on unless it's needed to be used should address the problem.

Expat shield. Just switch it on when you want it , totally free, know it works OK with Chrome.

I know this has pretty much been resolved already but i would use the HOLA plug in for firefox, you just switch it on and done. It is also available for Android.

I think the more solutions, the better.
  • I'm finding MediaHint works well for Firefox and Netflix (I'm using their 30day trial over Christmas) and so I can switch between what Netflix UK and USA have to offer which gives more choice than just the UK version.

    I'd recommend a Smart DNS service: vpnworld.org/unblockus

It's faster than a VPN, and there's no software to install. Just follow the instructions on their website to make a small change to the DNS settings on your computer or whatever device you will be watching on, and that's it.
They offer a 7-day free trial with the simplest of sign-ups, just put in your email address. Once your free trial expires, then you can decide to pay $4.99 a month.

I've tried/paid several providers, and I can say that UnblockUs offers the fastest streaming connection of them all.
