Hi, I wonder if all you great OS ers can help me with this please.
DH was making a cloutie dumpling yesterday using my mums large dumpling pot. This is a huge aluminium pot that dates back to the early 50s and which she always made her dumplings and potted hough in.
Unfortunately he let it burn dry and because the dumpling contains suet, sugar and treacle you can imagine the mess it is in.
Normally I would just have said ok we will get a new one but right now mum is dying and although it sounds silly I cannot bear to loose this pot. He was actually making the dumpling to try and get her to eat even a morsel since she taught him to make these at the turn of the year.
I have soaked it all night with ariel in it and will go get some brillo pads or wire wool but does anyone know what would clean the burned parts. All suggestions gratfully accepted.0 -
Hi, I burnt jam recently in my jam pan.
I used washing powder, as you have done, hot water and lemon juice, fairy, and wire wool with elbow greaseNot sure which worked the most or best, but it came off in the end.

Make sure the bottom (inside lol) is wet, put a layer of salt on it and leave it overnight.
Or Coke (the bottled variety lol) and leave overnight.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
At least one soak and elbow grease is what's worked for me in the past, but I may try the above suggestions next time!0

I can confirm that using non bio washing powder works just as well as bio. I had a really burnt pan, I mean really bad, totally covered in burnt sugar.
I dissolved two tablespoons of non bio powder in a pint of boiling water and poured it on. It took 36 hours in the end for it to fully loosen but it just came right off with a dishcloth, perfectly clean, no scrubbing needed.
So thanks to all who suggested washing powder in the first place, I've tried the vinegar and bicarb etc before but nothing works as good as this.0 -
Evening,
I boiled some condensed milk in a large stainless steel pan to make banoffee pie. However, I stupidly left the label on the tin. This or the tin has stained the inside of my trusted pan black.
Does anyone know how to remove this stain? It wont come off with soap, water & elbow grease.
Thanks.Cat :wave:0 -
I'd guess its more to do with the tin than the label, so it could happen again. Have you tried a paste of bicarbonate of soda? DS1 cooked something in my milk pan that stained it black, & I did get clean again with bicarb & elbow grease...0

Thanks for your reply.Cat :wave:0 -
Try pouring a can of coke in and bringing it to the boil then after a few mins pour away and wash as normal in hot soapy water.1 Sealed Pot Challenge # 1480
