Cavity Wall Insulation -Grant?

Hi, my son lives on the top floor of a block of three-storey flats, he is an owner-occupier.
Last week some people came round offering cavity wall insulation and saying there is a grant for this so he will have to pay nothing. There is a free survey for the insulation which he has signed up for.
They said that the grant was a Government initiative and repeated there would be nothing to pay.
The company has a website and is listed as belonging to relevant trade associations.
Does anyone have knowledge of similar schemes, and how the grant is funded, also what else should he be checking before entering into a contract with these people.
Thanks for your advice.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

Read the small print very carefully. (as in any contract)
Grants for loft insulation are stopped at present I understand, I'm not up to speed on cavity wall grants.
Check out whatever section of the Gov website covers such things.
http://www.homeinsulationgrants.info/I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Since hes in a flat he would need the consent of all the other flat owners, my neighbour wants cavity wall insulation but i don't, so they cannot install it.0

Very difficult to comment unless you post a link to the relevant website. Sounds more like a scam for Green Deal-which is most certainly not free.
To install CWI he would require the consent of the freeholder. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Thanks all for your comments and advice. I can't post a link because I can't remember the name of the company, will do so when I can find out.
My husband and I think it may be some sort of scam, as we thought that a) there were no grants any more and b) that you had to be on means-tested Benefits to not pay anything.
The company have not asked him for any Bank details.
We will investigate a little further, thanks.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

The only grant funding currently available is ECO funding for those receiving qualifying benefits, which by the sounds of things your son is not in receipt of.
It is correct that if he is in a flat, all adjoining flats will need to be give consent to be done as well as it's physically not possible to do just 1 flat as the cavity will run throughout the building. If they're in a similar situation to your son and not claiming benefits, it would probably be difficult to get everyone in agreement to pay. You would probs be looking at approx £150 per flat. Details of qualifying benefits can be found on the direct gov or karnheath website.0 -
We`ve literally just had a caller about the " free " insulation - had one last week , I spoke to them and they said , as it had been done ( 2years ago ) That was fine , and went away . Today`s caller spoke to my wife and alleged that we could get a refund on the cost that we had paid 2 years ago  . Is that BS or have I missed an opportunity

My son has found out more. Apparently it is the Green Deal and whilst usually means-tested, some places qualify because of the postcode, his block ofd flats is one of them. He has talked to another resident who has had it done and they said it was fine, and they had nothing to pay.
So he is going ahead with his survey and will take it from there.

If you live in a postcode are where there is a designated likelihood of fuel poverty, you will be able to claim free loft and cavity wall insulation regardless of whether you are in receipt of benefits or not.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Gimme gimee gimee:T
This isn't real, freakin poverty exists every where, how the hell it can be determined geographically escapes me.
Just draw a line north of Watford eh? Not that simple, fuel poverty is much more personal than that, there are no predetermined areas.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

I don't know how they determine which postcodes. I do know my son's flat was built in the 1960s and is therefore lacking in insulation.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

That wasn't intended as a pop at you SDW, but one at our beloved leaders who want everyone in a locational "pigeon hole"
