No glitch reported so far but it has been confirmed that you don't have to split your shopping into £50 batches. The 2 spits will both work when you spend £100+ (SA willing)!

  • I would be very grateful if someone could answer the following;

Has anyone ever purchased 'gift vouchers' to make there shopping bill up and successfully used wardrobe coupons to do this??confused.gif

e.g. shopping bill comes to £52, therefore purchase £8 voucher to take bill up over the £60 so that all £26 can be used??!!

I saw someone at the til doing something like this today but wasn't sure what her total spend was prior to the gift vouchers.

Thanks in advance and Happy New Year!smile.gif

P.S. Kronen and Leadhead, what made you convert from being a MOC experts to POINTS collectors?? I'm intrigued!!:rotfl:

    HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL

I certainly havent converted at all, theres no real bargains on HandB at the moment without using moc's which can be used on more essential stuff.....So to still take advavtage of a bad situation, and legally collect points I have been using the 50 pointer with mainly Garlic Capsules....gaining £2 in deals for every 35p spent(and used less mocs than would have to get free HandB)....At this rate i'll have a car soon!!!!!

The same applied to the Johnsons and the Photo frames glitch......although it still bugs me having to smuggle frames into non frame holding stores and buying them back....although maybe just as well, or I would have had a frame mountain, next to my other mountains and lakes.

When free HandB returns i still wont use a clubcard with it...........

I believe my Coupon Queen "kronen", was an avid points collector before free HandB came about....but didnt "shout" about it......

I've done this with some coupons, but cant specifically remember whether it was with the "Wardrobe" coupons....I know it didnt work with the £6 clothing/elictrical, as it came up as a non qualifying spend....I have bought phone top ups and gift card together with coupons in the past...Read some of my previous posts and you'll find out if it was with the "wardobe" or not.....I honestly cant remember........

and i still havent got round to trying the £10 on a small spend, to see if they have "messed up" completely.....but have used the £4 on a £15 spend....which may mean that £60 doesnt have to be the minimum to use the full £26.

  • hi, I work on the clothing desk at tesco so I thought I'd clear a few things up...
newish2this: you would'nt be able to use gift vouchers to make up your minimum spend for clothing (or other department specific) vouchers as the till normally recognises how much you have spent on clothing, not your bill (having said that sometimes its worth playing dumb and handing it over cos occasionally they will scan (providing you are only making up a small shortfall so it is not noticable to the sa that you haven't spent the minimum), but I didnt tell you that!).

20% off..I know the one you were all talking about ended a while ago, but for next time, you can use vouchers for the spend before the money is taken off..i.e. £50 spend - 20% = 40 - £10 voucher = pay £30, etc.

sa's are supposed to check all vouchers before scanning them, to make sure the item has been bought as often the till will just accept them, so please don't take it out on us if we say you can't use it! We are only doing our job!

Hope this has been helpful, if anyone has other questions (not ones about how to beat the systems cos I really don't know!), then don't hesitate to ask

Hi t_v and welcome.......As a generalisation, you may be able to assume that about qualifying spends, but the last lot of Wardrobe Coupons(they're coupons by the way...not vouchers) could be used on anything, not just clothes, so to assume that MR T wont get the qualifying spend wrong as well is a bit niave....and I've used £4 ones on less than the qualifying spend as well....

Again with the 20% discount, it has occurred in the past where the minimum spend after discount had to be met before the coupon could be used,........so again, it depends on who writes the programme or set up the tills..

I dont want to criticise your input here, as we welcome input from the Tesco side as well....but a friend of mine also works on the clothing desk, and her opinion differs from yours.

I know for a fact that instances differ from what you have stated above, I am not saying it doesn't happen like you say.....what i am saying is....it doesn't always happen the same, and really as you only work on the clothing desk, how do you know about qualifying spends and whether minimum spends have to be met, and what actually is allowed on the normal tills....as i doubt you have many incidences of people buying gift cards or top ups with clothes through your tills.

And for your statement,,,,,,,"but for next time, you can use vouchers for the spend before the money is taken off..i.e. £50 spend - 20% = 40 - £10 voucher = pay £30, etc.".....how do you know this....is there a coupon planned we dont know about.....

I'm sorry if i sound a bit harsh, and please dont stop contributing to the thread....but MR T is known to be inconsistent, so no one knows the "truth"........some of us have been doing this a long time, and we still get surprises...........

Just come back from a combined vit and Ham run....Ham supposed to be £1.85 each, 2 for £3....instead of taking the 70p off to make it £3..it takes the £3 off to make it 70p.............who'd have thought it?????...Thanks to my Coupon Queen for this tip.....

  • First, apologies for calling them vouchers (at our store we call the clubcard ones coupons and the others vouchers to differentiate).

However, I think that you will find that I was quite clear. Every sales assistant is supposed to check that all coupons used match what has been put through the till. I agree that this does not always happen, but this is because tesco do know that most of their coupons have some form of glitch on them. This is what I meant about qualifying spend....I am not supposed to accept a coupon for money off £50 if I can see that the customer hasn't spent this, however if i customer is nice then i will see if it will scan.

Every time i have been involved in a 20% off promotion, coupons have only required the minimum spend to be met before the discount, so it must have been several years ago/ differences in parts of the country or something that caused this problem for yourself, as the way the promotion is set up the till has the total and then takes the discount off, and as the coupon 'looks' at the total, it does not matter about the discount.

Also, you make a grand assumption that I only work on the clothing desk. If you have a friend that works on the clothing desk then surely you know that it is highly unlikely that this would happen? Anybody that shops in tesco will have heard the calls for multiskilled staff, I do overtime on the checkouts, plus there is the fact that to be trained on the clothing desk you have to have the same basic training as till staff first. Also, you can pay for anything from the clothing desk,so yes, i do sell many gift vouchers and top-ups through my till.

I am fully aware that instances do differ from what I have said. I did not say that this is exactly how it happens, I just wanted to give a general idea to people about how tesco operates, from someone who actually knows and isnt just guessing. I did say that I didn't know how to beat the system, but I've scanned my fair share of coupons and had the 'customer has not met qualifying spend' message to have a general idea of what you can get away with in general terms.

If you have been doing this for a long time then surely you have noticed the pattern? mid season sale>6-8 weeks of nothing>instore coupons>day after coupons end 20% off>4-5 weeks>mid season sale? This is what I was referring to for 'next time', and no, before anyone asks I don't know when it is, which means its not soon, we are still in the process of marking down items in the sale (loads of things are going to 75% off tomorrow).

I primarily joined this forum to give people a heads up on anything I hear of and, believe it or not, to gain some tips myself. I really don't appreciate being talked down to and referred to as the 'tesco side', I just wanted to share my experience from both sides of the till as profit hungry Sir Terry thinks that using coupons to your advantage is theft, and I wouldnt want anyone being pulled into the security room. (I'm really not joking, a customer recently got arrested at our store as he bought a couple of non-food items with '1000 free clubcard points' etc., then returned them and kept the points. Thats how tight tesco are)
