ASDA self service machine gobbles up £20

Surely the store can check the amount in the tills at the end of the day.
I'd contact Asda HO and make a formal complaint.
OP I don't think you are a liar, there's a slight possibility you were mistaken but a larger possibility the machine hiccupped.0 -
I've often put more money than needed before. The change of screen is often quite slow IMO (must be good ol' Microsoft technology), and it isn't exactly speedy recognising coins and notes you've put in. So assuming you're not dawdling then it's very easy and certainly possible to put more money in than is required.
Dunno why so many people have taken some of these posts with such hostility though!0 -

I agree there is often a delay, but the poster said the receipt was already being printed when the second note was inserted..
I assume the hostility comes from the posters over reaction to Wealdroam clarifying what happened.0 -
Crikey, a software engineer with anger issues. Lay off the Red Bull before you have a heart attack.0

I always use a staffed checkout. Perhaps OP should too in future.0

I've used the Asda self service tills many a time and have never put in too much money in, the machines work as they should do for me and many many many more.0

So you've used the the Asda checkouts once or twice a week for a good few years and you haven't had a problem. How does your minuscule amount of useage show that these tills are 100% reliable.0 -

Quality troll by the way. I particularly enjoyed you having a conversation with yourself with your second account.
Not sure what's worse, you calling someone a liar or some of the other members thanking you.0 -
If these machines can charge twice on cards why can't they charge twice with cash? the difficulty you have is proving it, as its easier to prove on a debit or credit card.
I guess your approach is what makes people feel you are making it up. Some of us are convinced that machines are meant to work, on the other hand some of us understands the mechanism behind them better and know there are loopholes here and there.
If you have the time, you can force Asda to check their security camera, if you are in luck and in good line with one of the cameras, they will discover their error and you can force them to issue an apology and refund of course.0 -
I can see it's entirely possible a machine could malfunction .0
