Hi hoping someone can answer a few questions. My husband was being bombarded with calls from a comlany called The Claims People about reclaiming PPI. Eventually, to get rid, my husband told them to go ahead and investigate, not thinking we ever had PPI. Anyway, the other day we got a letter from the bank with an offer of £600, but the invoice was from a different company called PPICLAIMS i think. It turns out my husband had done the same with this company last November so it was them that got us the money basically (and took half of it in fees but thats another story !). What i want to know is can The Claims People charge us a fee if they are also pursuing the bank, even though we have already received compo tnrough another company ? My husband forgot he even spoke with the first company, but can now vaguely remeber signing the agreement.
Secondly TCP told us we would have nothing at all to do, however in pursuit of another loan they wrote advising the company has no record of the loan and we need to provide account numbers, statements and utility bills etc. i have this info but due to their fees I was planning on doing the claims myself but im worried if i am due anything they will want a cut of it as tney initially contacted them (black horse finance). Can they pursue any further if they have no other info ? And how long should i wait before i try to claim myself ?

Sorry its so long winded and thankyou if you have managed to read to the end :)

So you had two claims firms chasing the same complaint? It's very likely you'll have to pay both of them if you've signed legally binding contracts with them!

Yes it would seem we have ! But the second company were telling my husband they would write to anybody when my husband said he wasnt sure who he had loans with. They wrote to two companys that we were never involved with, and we told them that, so what im trying to say is that the money was already claimed, so would this not be a no win no fee ?

Claims companies tend to be very aggressive on getting their fees and are prepared to use the small claims court.

Yeah i can believe that. But the first company was instructed months before the second one came on the scene. As we hadnt heard from them (forgot all about it)we to,d the second lot that we did have a loan with RBS (among a few others they were chasing for us) but didnt know if we had PPI on it. Anyway my point is, the claim had already been made by another company and paid out so how can they expect any payment when it wasnt them that won the compensation for us ? Getting worried now and wish my husband had told them no thanks !

They are one and the same company.

The Claims People and www.PPICLAIMS.org.uk are simply registered trading names of Quintessential Finance Group Limited for which they have the same CMR authorisation number and with whom the contract will be with.

If you go here and click the link for Quintessential Finance Group Limited you'll see that the trading names share the same MOJ authorisation number.

    https://www.claimsregulation.gov.uk/search.aspx?search=simple&business=the+claims+people&authID=&sector=-1&county=-1&status=-1

On your second point, if you cancel the contract and pursue the claim yourself there will probably be a term in the contract that allows them to charge for the work they have done up till now so I would check it first.

They are one and the same company.
I doubt they'd be able to charge twice for the same complaint then, especially as they were effectively touting for business from an existing customer when they cold called.
