Avon S-S-S is not actually a mozzie repellant.

It was marketed very briefly (1 campaign only, I think) many years ago as good for repelling mozzies.

I've used Autan for years, the 'tropical strength' one.
I don't think it smells gorgeous though.
I've had problems in the past getting hold of it.
Boots seemed to stop stocking it.

Yup - Skin So Soft's claim to fame rests on a totally unattributed "claim" that the SAS used it on excercise in the Scottish Highlands. Needless to say that they have never confirmed it.

Some years after the story started, Avon marketed a version that did actually contain some DEET but not a lot, so at best it was a very middling repellant.

Autan is a good repellant overall but not that effective against some species common in the UK - which is maybe why it can be difficult to get hold of.
