i am a magnet for mozzies, last holiday to lanzarote i was eaten alive, had 4 bites on eyelids and around eye alone, spent the week hiding behind sunglasses as it looked like i had a keggie lol. avon sss didnt work for me
went to dominican republic in february armed with deet. jungle formula max bought from morrissons for £6.99 bought the spray and gel, tbh i wouldnt buy the spray again it takes your breathe away.
i bought lavender soap and lavender bodywash, a few weeks before travel i started taking vitamin b1(not proven to work but anything was worth a try)

    Yup.

I thought it was curious that the poster who recommended 'deet', didn't say what the brand name was.

On the basis they were recommending 100% deet then it would make no difference which brand it was as the bottle only contains deet irrespective of which brand it is.

If you recommended a lower concentration of deet then brand would come into it because what the other substances in the mix are would vary by brand

That looks quite an interesting unit.

If each butane canister lasts for 12 hours, you'd probably need to take spare canisters with you.

Are you allowed to do this on aircraft?

CAA regulations say you can't take hydrocarbon gas refills (for hair tongs).

This one may be more suitable, never used them so can't comment.

Hi. When I went to India I used elastic wrist an ankle bands impregnated with repellent, as I could not take malaria tablets and we were going to high risk area. I bought them from Go Outdoors. I did not get a single bite but my college who used 100% DEET spray did.

I tried wristbands and the little yellow sticky patches that you can buy in Asia along with the 100% deet. I still got a few bites but they were on bits of skin I'd missed spraying like underneath my arms!

I think some people are much more attractive to mozzies than others. If you're unlucky enough to be appealing to them they'll do their best to get you.

We swear by Boots Repel range, never had one bite since using this. I use the wipes early in the morning when insects are still awake (Im a very early riser) and the spray in the evenings.

    100% Vs 55% DEET etc.

One isn't any more effective than the other, using 100% will just mean it lasts longer before needing to be re-applied.

I was always badly bitten when on holiday, I take 1 tablet of vitamin B compound daily for 2 weeks before I travel and everyday of my holiday I also use spray usually 50% deet and no longer get bitten even when I spent a week on a game farm in South Africa:D

There are a lot of DEET-based brands that are pretty-much identical and DEET itself can be bought as raw chemical.

Boots own brand (Repel?) repellant is one of the best DEET-based brands that I've found and it has far less of the skin-irritating, stinging, plastic/fabric damaging issues than the likes of Jungle Formula. It is sold in two concentrations - Yellow tin (weaker) and Silver tin (stronger), often subject to offer - I tend to stockpile a few tins to see me across the summer when its cheap.
