It's a bit of a nightmare - the train only goes so far, and then it's a bus through little windy roads and tiny villages. My sis goes on the bus sometimes and says it takes more than 2 hours although that might be with a change in uttoxeter. We live a 40 minute drive away.
In the summer I've noticed the train companies doing trips to alton towers, where you get the train from london to, erm derby I think although it might be uttoxeter and they put on a bus for the rest of the journey.
I wish the journey was a bit easier - I've bought waterpark passes but because I don't drive I can't use them during half term unless I get the bus.52% tight0 -
We usually go to Alton Towers every summer, but this year our school teacher friend wants to come too. This means we'll have to go on a Sunday most probably early June.
What it like for crowds at the weekend? We have always been in the week before. Are we mad?0 -
Can I just advise anyone who like me packs picnics and lots of drinks because of young kids, we went to Alton Towers yesterday my girls are ages 6 & 8 years old so I carried a heavy picnic bag to keep my drinks and snacks cold, I always find theme parks very expensive to buy food and especially drinks, but I couldn't believe that Alton Towers have an offer on cold drinks, buy a huge drinks bottle which has a strap (that can go around your neck or on your shoulder) for £5 and then it's free refills all day around the park. So if you have a family of 4 and don’t mind sharing the drink, you can keep refilling for free! I really wish I had known this beforehand to save my shoulders!0

Has anyone got any tips on the best time suring summer to go to Alton Towers? It'll be a group of about 15 adults. We ideally wants some great weather so we can have apicnic in the gardens, plus we cando the wet rides without fear of catching pneumonia! Also, the later the park is open the better, we're driving three hours to get there.
The thing is, we really don't want to go when its going to be heaving. Two of us went in July (when the London Bombings happened) and we literally gt straight on Rita three times in a row. Oblivion too! It would be awesome to do that again.
Any tips?Foreign politicians often zing stereotypical tunes, mayday, mayday, Venezuela, neck

Are they real or fakes ?
Can anyone advise me please ?
The passes on Ebay are old staff passes. You can use them as well as the ones that are included in the entry tickets but as with the normal ones you can only obtain a fastpass one at a time.0 -

Any rides to avoid, queue for early?

We're off to Alton Towers this Sunday! It's the first time we've been on a weekend.
It's the last day of half term too, so hopefully most will have been and be getting ready for school.0 -

Yep - a fab deal, and don't forget 20% off if you have an annual pass making it £4.
We have just got back from two days there and as we were staying in a Travelodge making a picnic wasn't really an option. But we discovered the pizza and pasta restaurant. £7.95 for adults, £3.95 for children - eat all you can pizza, pasta and salad as well as unlimited soft drinks. I would guess that it is supplied by Pizza Hut although it was classified a resort restaurant. With our discount we were eating for just over £15 for myself and 3 children, a bargain as far as theme park prices are concerned and made it seem more like a treat. 2 of my children are teenagers and I was not asked their ages on either day (although a table of young boys next to us were and all said that they were 12). We opted for a late lunch on both days (lunchtime time queue was long) and ate very well - after a full day of fresh air and theme park the children weren't starving when we got back and were happy with some fresh fruit and snacks in front of the TV before bed!0
