Go for Be, no traffic shaping, no download caps, and one very helpful forum full of site admins and experienced users!
Been with them for 3 months, and absolutely loving it. And only 3 months notice if you don't like them.

They do have a fair usage policy, granted. Every ISP who offers uncapped bandwidth has a FUP in place. But I have not heard one person complain about receiving a letter from them yet. Its all relative after all in comparison to other ISPs. And provided you do most of your downloading in the night, I doubt they would mind.
Even if they have a FUP in place, by switching to them .. my speeds more than doubled from 3.7 to 8 which obviously depends on the distance from the exchange and if your exchange is Be-enabled. This was more than enough reason to join them. Not that it makes a big deal of a difference when surfing. But when waiting for that 500MB game demo, its worthwhile!0 -
I think this all goes back to my favourite saying on ISPs "you gets what you pays for".
The link to the Zen forum, and the departing customer, is interesting. It all comes back to the same old question about download speed/capacity and cost.
The poster is saying he can get 20 X the download speed, no limit on download. all for a fraction of the cost at Zen. I seem to have heard that before ! The "grass is always greener........." It doesn't take many very heavy users to cause download problems to everyone else.
I have a 20gig limit on my download, I am happy with that, my useage is 50% of that. I pay £24.99 a month. If someone wants to download 200, 500 gigs a month should they not be paying a more realistic price ?
The whole telecoms infrastructure in the UK is creaking at the seams with soaring demand, if people paid more the system could be improved to cope with their demands.
It wasn't that long ago we were paying £15 a month for 56k dial up, which in itself imposed download capacity limits. Now people are expecting mega download speeds and unlimited giga download capacity for the same sort of money - something has to give ! either wallets or the telecomms system.0 -
I am still on the 2Meg and have no thoughts of changing at the moment, although I am always looking around.
100Gig download limit (uploads not counted at Zen) and I have never used that much.

I have found through some bad experiences, like the OP, that the best way to check out an ISP is to ring their support line, not their sales line, and see what the response is, and how your call is dealt with.
I am with IDNet, not the cheapest, but absolutely first class service.
You get what you pay for is certainly true in my case.;)0 -

I use to have two accounts, I was one of the first to be sort of thrown out of BT anytime and placed on the 004 number that was hard to connect to and never stayed connected very long when it did connect.0 -
I have been with Pipex for 7 years, just recently they have messed me about something chronic, taking differing amounts from my bank, making accountancy errors, when I query them, they take weeks to answer, finally I am leaving them in July, and when I told them they were not bothered,so,be warned, AVOID.Terrible customer service, just terrible.Kawasaki z750 Rider!0
