 (not that beer is the best thing at this time celebrate with!) but,

CONGRATULATIONS to cazscoob, Choc and anyone else that has just had their baby!!! :T :T :T

Hi to the new people that have joined this thread, special mention to mr chutz.. you'll find out all the inside info from the womans point of view on here, some prety gory stuff too lol.. but I'm sure the fellas have a few stories, whoever they may be lol:rolleyes:
  • CHOCOHOLIC - Stay if you like, i think that others who have given birth can offer lots of words of wisdom to us that are still preggars. My youngest is not quite 5 and say i sometimes stray to the parents board and sometimes ask questions on there too. I don't think i will find it easy to leave this thread either, i will probably have to be forced out when any knowledge i have from this pregnancy is out of date!

Hi and thanks 3 kids for the advice-I may actually go down the route of a blow up bath, as I can take it on holiday as were going away when baby is 3 months old.As for those birth packs-do you only get them If you give birth in hospital-as I'm having a homebirth and I wouldn't mind one of those nappy things for free;) When I had my eldest nearly 15 years ago I got the sangenic one, for the best part of 30 quid and really think of it as a must buy ever again.

(I forgot to mention that you lot are honoured as the only people that know at the moment is my parents, our bosses and a friend of the same age who has had two children so is a good confidante for my wife)

No, Hampshire don't do dating scans. All part of NHS cutbacks I suppose. Most places do them privately for £100 but I was chuffed to find this place that does them for half that but still has good reviews from pregnant women around the net.

Chatting our friend they don't offer them in Bristol any more either, so maybe it's becoming more common?

They do still do the 20 week scan though. But even the dating scan seems like ages away!

And maybe I should expand on my earlier rant about everything being very female-orientated: if you look at all the info you get from a man's point of view it is all on how you can help support your pregnant partner. There is very little talking about how you should be feeling and maybe where you could go for help and support.

Me, I'm over the moon that my wife is pregnant, we've been trying for ages, but I'm sure that there are plenty of men out there that are confused and scared at this moment in time. And I bet they feel that if they were to speak out they'd get ostracised for not supporting the mother/being a heartless 'lad' that doesn't want to grow up. I've actually read that on forums where there is a "Dad's only" forum - someone states concerns and women start posting to tell him how horrible he is for thinking that!

The only mention of men in a magazine my wife bought the other day was "what men really think about pregnant sex". What a load of rubbish.

Anyway, rant over for now, I'm off for a lie-down :rotfl:

Our plan is to use baby gifts to their full advantage! My parents have a load of stuff from my sister's kids that they said we can have and have promised £150 towards the first travel system.

My mum is also already picking up baby stuff in the weekly shop, buying small and often to build up a supply. She did this when she was having all of us and also when my sister was pregnant. We're going to do this but are waiting until the 12 week mark.

Oh, and she's noticed that a lot of places seem to be selling of winter stuff now and getting ready for spring. When will our little ones be born? Pretty much in winter! So now might be a good time to pick up some clothes.

I'm also putting any bonus I get from work straight into an ISA, I need to buy a new car as I only have a small coupe! Still got a good seven months or so to scrimp and save I suppose!

charity shops are a gold mine for baby things and u can gurantee most of it has never been worn or worn once also local papers bags of clothes for £10 so look in the and the free-ad papers.

chutz i agree theres not much support for dads its all mummy centered and its unfair when mums take over dads boards.dads to be have worries and concerns aswell as mothers and shud be allowed to express them.

Chutzpah, you raised some very valid points from the male perspective. We are on our 4th with an almost 9 year gap between our youngest and this one.My OH was never happy about the pragnancy and we do have money concerns. However I have gone ahead with the pregnancy and he is very distant towards me.I have branded him as selfish and unsupportive-even though he had said he can't face it all. But, I just saw it as I do most of the work anyway. You have kind of put a different spin on things and I'm sure a lot of men will appreciate that.

I agree it's very wise to include bits in the weekly shop-especially nappies!I have a very nice pile of stock, lol.
:A Your Always in my heart, you never ever will be forgotten-9/9/14:heart2:
  • traveller - i think i remember reading somewhere that if you ask your midwife for the bounty pack she should be able to sort you out with one. Probably not the first thing you will think about when you have had your baby but in true MSE style i am sure you won't forget. Me, i love all the freebies that you get and i am sure that it has changed even from when i had my youngest less than 5 years ago.
