    Can anyone help?

We're looking to spend sometime at Portmeirion in the summer. I'm looking at hotels now. Am I right in thinking you can only book direct with the hotel rather than through a booking site? Trying to get the best prices possible but it seems a bit of a closed shop:)

    Re MOTs etc

Best plan is to respect your local guys in a local garage.

They recognise a fair customer & give you a fair price for work that needs doing.

I did just that. Chocs and wine/beer at christmas, the works. Then they started messing me about, the prices shot through the roof, and when I booked the car in for mot the last time, I asked for an early appointment cos I needed it back for work. I was told yes, that was fine, have the car there by 0830, which I did. I hadn't heard by 12, so phoned to find out if there was a problem. I was told, snottily, that it would be ready when the mechanic had finished, and phoning wouldn't make it any quicker:eek::mad:. She then said if I wanted it back that early I should have booked an early appointment. I told her I had, and that's why the car was there at 830 as requested! The next thing was 'we have a new mechanic, and he's a bit slow'.
I got the car back at 5pm just before they shut, and when I checked the worksheet, it showed the work was done by the same mechanic who did the mot last year,(he's the only mechanic there!). When I asked around I was told that the attitude put people off, and when they left the prices went up to compensate for the lack of work/customers/income.
Well, they've lost another four now, cos our four cars are
going to another local garage, one that I used for DS2's mot and service. Sooo much more helpful, reasonably priced, with excellent customer care, they even collect the car from your home and bring it back afterwards.

Now expired. Apparently those who did manage to get an order in will have them cancelled.

And what makes you think that?

Was it DiM that was bemoaning the 750 cc points not working? Have a look at this weeks MSE email

Last week we had a Tesco Wine code for 750 points. Most people used it, but a few had a technical glitch which meant they couldn’t use it. To make up for it, Tesco has given us another 750 points (on £50 spend) which will go live here for about a day from 10am on Thu 25 Apr.
The code will go live HERE at 10am Thu 25 Apr.

    EDIT
NB Only for about a day, so you'll need to be quick

It will come undone if one 'lowest common denominator' turns out to be unhelpful (even if good guy before) but more often than not you're better off building up a good relationship with small local guys
  • So sorry to hear of your loss Tinyshoes take care of yourself over the next few days, often these things take a while to fully sink in.

If you go to rip off places and treat them a bit disdainful, they rip you off

Agreed, also if you maintain your car you should have no surprises on your MOT,
act on any advisories, check your lights, tyres etc regularly and don't ignore any unusual noises, they are your early warnings, rarely does anything on a car fail without prior notice, if you ignore them they will come back to bite you on the bum! usually at the most inconvienient time!
