Really annoyed at 1.5litre milk

You may or ay not have noticed not a lot of grass growing of late,
I have cut my Mum's lawns twice already this year - seems to be more than enough grass to me :rotfl:Milk is healthy, but the cereal its going on might not be and 8 bowsl a day is going to be filling any kid up and stop them eating more balanced food!
I read this as 5-8 bowls a day for the family not for one (or even two) children :eek:I let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -
Gailey you are a trooper I salute your abilities to aquire this much milk what a nightmare you must be never out of the shops.Would it be worth trying to ration it a bit to save you time and money
Where is the cheapest place you have found that sells it ? maybe plan around visiting themonwards and upwards0 -

Ok guys just to clarify cereal thing
we are a family of 5
3kids and 2adults and most days have bowl cereal each for breckfast.
Then in evening me, hubby and eldest might have bowl for supper if still hungry after dinner.
hence why so many bowls per day.
Im big coffee drinker so think 1/2pint day on hot drinks for me and hubby.
Husband and eldest 7like to drink milk and will have big pint glass full.
The younger toddlers- well they have 2-3bottles each per day usaully one in morning, during naptime or in afternoon then one for bed.
This is why we use so much milk.
even things like leek and potato soup uses milk.
odd ocassional treat milk shake or angel delight.
We get through more in school holidays and weekend days.
we use mix semi skimmed and blue for younger 2 bottles.
The youngest child just turned 2only really started on cows milk as breastfed upto 23months the 3.5year old is a milk monster she adores it.
On the whole they are not very picky and least try things but ahve days with meals where they eat lots and days where eat like sparrow so would feel uneasy cutting their milk intake down as they quite young.
Its more just principle I know we only talking one small retailer here but was wiseman branded so guess they make for number of different retailers told the woman I wasnet happy even with the £1.80 multibuy trying to make it seem good value its really not.
I know in ideal world go supermarkets but
farmfoods is a distance only go once a month.
I live opposite end of high street so high street 20-25min walk
retail park to lilds least 30mins. I dont drive.
So I choose to support small local retailers.
my nearest being garage only stocks cravendale extornionate never go there.
spar was £1.39 4pints or 8pints for £2.50 which makes it similar prices to big 4 £1.25 per 4pints but thats now ended and 8pints now costs me £2.78.
booker premier 4pints was £1.09 but next door the mace postoffice has 4pints for £1 so will try there and hope they dont change and will avoid mcolls.
I know prices dont sound huge but adds up over a month if brought it all at cheapest £1 pre 4pints im still spending£60 a month on a 30day month just on milk!
I hate being ripped off and see retailers doing this a lot why stopped shopping at iceland as weights and packaging got smalller.pad by xmas2010 £14,636.65/£20,000::beer:

gailey what about buying UHT milk ? When OH and I were first together we switched to that because we could buy in bulk on offers and not worry about it going off.
Another suggestion would be to look for YS milk in supermarkets. As long as there's a bit of room for expansion in plastic bottle/carton you can freeze fresh milk without probs.
I'd also suggest that cereals are not that healthy if you look at the sugar content, even for something like Rice Krispies let alone Frosties. So if they are still hungry after dinner how about giving bigger portions of veg at dinner and things like carrot sticks and apples as snacks ? That would cut your milk bill a lot.0 -
The cheapest place to get milk is
farmfoods but miles away.
next nearest places are
lidls at retail park.
or mcols postiffice/shop in high street 4pints/2lites for £1.
today went in adn they have robert wiseman milk and its gone down in size to 1.5litres so 3pint cartons.
Never seen this before.
They had multibuy buy 2 for £1.80 so 6pints for 1.80 when used to get 2pints for £2-I lost 2pints.
we get through 8pints a day.
so brought 3 for £2.80 =9pints
£3 would have given me 12pints so lost 3pints and end up having to spend £3.60 just to have enough.
I do hope other retailers will not follow suit did tell shop im not happy and may stop buying milk there as they now not much cheaper than sainsburys or co-op think £1.25 per 2lites so £2.50 gives me 8pints were as 1.80 in shop gets me 6pints im paying extra 70p to get extra 2pints or litre..
Things are shrinking its not good.
If you buy 2 litres of milk you are getting 3.5 pints. - if you pay £1 it costs you 28.5p a pint.
If you are buying 4 pints you are getting 2.27 litres. if you pay a £1 it's 25p a pint.
£1.80 for 3 litres that's 5.27 pints and is 34p a pint.
Our Co-op sells milk in 4 pints or 2.27 litres.
If you can buy 4 pints for a £1 that's the cheapest - then 2 litres for a £1 - then your 3 litres for £1.80.
It's a bit of a pain that they don't all sell milk in the same volume.0 -
Have you tried UHT? Or at least for things like hot drinks. You can buy it in bulk and it will last an age. Or reducing the amount you put in. I barely put a splash in coffee and prefer it now. Maybe ask family to cut down on drinking so much too. Drinking a half pint glass instead of a pint would save a fortune.0

I would suggest two things that could help reduce your milk bill.
The first is reduce the amount you drink as that really seems like a crazy amount of milk each day/week.
The second is keep an eye out for reductions on short dated milk as they can really help you save money without affecting how much you drink. My Motto in Life:

yes gailey I grabbed milk at the bus station and when I got home it had shrunk to 1.5 litres, but the clever new shape made it look the same size! Rip-off Britain!!0

A pint a day each seems to be the recommendation for kids - if you culd get everyone down to that it would save you a forture - and don't forget yog and cheese contribute to that amount so if they are eating other dairy you could get away with lessPeople seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

At last someone gets me.
I could drink gallons of milk anger still be the same.
They still ripping me off offering me less for same price in same shaped bottle.
I already get reduced milk from spar a few times a month.
I hate uht milk and couldent drink it or have it on cereal.
I have 3kids 2under 4 nutritionally milks good for them.
Ideally I would like to cut us 6pints a day but now 2year olds off boob and onto milk not so sure.
They have healthy cereals like cherios, weetabix.
Also morally think its better to up price not fiddle with packaging and try and deceive people.pad by xmas2010 £14,636.65/£20,000::beer:
