Sorry. Have I missed something? At what point did the OP say the kids were eating sugar coated cereal ?
Mine only have carp cereal at weekends. Other than that is is porridge, weetabix or 'boring' cereal.0 -
Thanks baggy I know I was puzzled no where did I say i fed them junk cereals was just assumed.
I think porridge and musile work well with adults but kids not so much.
I just hate being ripped off and what if all the shops did this?

Mine wont have museli. They eat granola (without milk) but that is full of hidden sugar. Weekends are crumpets or pancakes also where i can police the syrup!0

Why? If op uses skimmed or semi skimmed I would have thought healthy (I think toddler needs full fat though). And of course as long as sugar is not added to drinks or in the cereal.0

I'm sure (correct me if I'm wrong please) all cereal contain sugar and salt?
Just managed to get my nearly 5yr old on to rice krispies, he wont have sugar on them by his choice. He would prefer only boiled eggs or omelette and a big bowl of fruit every day with a glass of fresh orange juice (all made by him with help of the kitchen help - me). But too much eggs again are not good, and on days he has cereal he can have fruit for his tea, and if he has a toast in the morning spread with some banana he can make his own smoothie for tea.
It can be difficult feeding some kids in the morning, all three of mine love eggs and fruit in the morning, trying anything else is a nightmare but we carry on trying.0 -
If I find someting is getting too expensive for me to buy, I look for other alternatives which are just as good. A while ago I noticed that tins of tesco evaporated milk were reduced to 30p, so I bought loads. I dilute it for cereals, perfect, still got some left. In my coffee I have Coffee Mate, one spoonful in a mug, and it's fine, easy to get used to.
You shouldn't need to eat cereals at night after your dinner, sounds more like a habit to me. Try a yogurt instead.

Shredded wheat, puffed wheat and wheatabix don't. Nor does porridge - not sure why OP doesn''t think porridge good for kids - mine have eaten it since were tiny amd as a carb its slightly slower release that wheat so can help keep you full for longer.
Rice krispies, cheerios, corn flakes, shreddies etc etc all do contain salt and sugar but not quite as much as some of the sugar coated ones aimed at kids like ricicles, cocopops, frosties etc etc etcPeople seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.
