Scan.co.uk - Restocking fee on incompatible item

When you picked it up why didn't you ask them?
For the sake of £2 I would just write it off and learn from your mistakes.
I honestly don't think they would have been able to tell me one way or the other as they sell that many products but I think I will just write it off, just wanted to know where I stood that's all.0 -

I made the mistake but read it as a 'universal' laptop charger and believed that it would work, Dell being a very popular brand. I decided I don't want it because it isn't compatible, not because I have changed my mind about wanting the product. I would have gladly kept it had it worked.
The goods themselves are fit for purpose, so you are returning them purely because you do not want them (you made a mistake in purchasing them).
As you ordered and paid online, you could have used DSR to return them and have notified them within 7 days that you were returning them. You failed to do that, so you are now relying on their goodwill to accept the return - for which they have decided to charge you 10%.
Their T&C clearly mentions that they will make a restocking charge and additionally also say that it is your responsibility to ensure compatibility.0 -
They are selling it as a universal laptop charger which it isn't0

Universal just means its suitable for a wide range of laptops/phones/whatever. Not that it fits every single one ever made.
I had to laugh at the "I disagree wealdroam" part because what wealdroam told you, is effectively how it is viewed in the eyes of the law.
The only grounds you could have possibly is if they did not inform you of your cancellation rights under DSRs - if they dont do that, then you have 7 working days starting the day after you receive the information in a durable form - up to a maximum of 3 months and 7 working days.
If they did inform you, then i'm afraid you'll either need to flog it, keep it or accept the 10% restocking fee.You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
Another "What are my rights? No you are wrong!" poster.
You've been given the correct answer by wealdroam. Either take it, or don'tOne important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0 -
I suspect it didn't also say it didn't charge rabbits or motor cars, so an omission of things it doesn't do isn't really the same as a claim that it does.
£2, don't have a coffee on Monday and you're all square - some battles aren't worth it. Especially when it looks like scan are within their rights0 -

I was trying to get across the fact that I hadn't changed my mind about the product (i.e. it was the wrong colour) but that the item wasn't compatible which I feel is different. I acknowledged further up that I would have to accept the restocking fee.0 -

Where am I disagreeing with the advice given? I was merely trying to give a full explanation of the circumstances and trying to clarify that I hadn't changed my mind about the item (i.e. it was the wrong colour/I found it cheaper elsewhere) but that it didn't work with my machine which I felt was different. The law is the law so how can I argue with that?0 -

I didn't buy it to charge a rabbit or a motor car, I bought it to charge a Dell laptop, one of the largest computer manufacturers and I felt it reasonable to expect it to charge said laptop, especially as it had seven different adaptors! But I realise I will have to accept the restocking fee.0
