Sorry. I'm confusing Mountain Dew with Dasani water, wherein the filtering process used Bromate and (in the UK) yielded high levels in the final product so it was banned. (Bromate is a carcinogen).

Nothing to see here folks ... move along! :o:o

Re Mountain Dew: I always assumed it was the Brominated vegetable oil which is used as a stabiliser. It's not on the list of approved additives in the EU at present. The HFCS (High fructose corn syrup) doesn't taste much different to sugar and is (I believe) approved in the EU but is rarely used because sugar is much cheaper in the EU than it is in the US so there's little need for it.

As for Argos, I gave up shopping there a long time ago. I don't know whether the items I ordered were problematic for them (a vacuum cleaner and some power tools) but they struggled for weeks before finally giving up and cancelling my order. By the end I felt quite sorry for the people there who I was dealing with; their systems seemed to be pretty archaic so was happy to agree to cancel the order. :)

I thought Dasani died a death when people realised they were paying a fortune for tap water!

Must say I am surprised with all the Argos complaints, been a customer for 10+ years and never had a single problem.

Well, update for you. My refund landed in my Paypal account earlier after Argos finally admitted that they 'couldn't fulfil my order'.
I've been assured it's on its way twice so not only are Argos staff liars they caused me to wait in for the parcel delivery which never appeared.
Interestingly ALL the items I ordered are still in stock and still display 'Delivery within 4 days'.

Complete and utter joke and an experience I'll never repeat.

    ridiculous, isn't it...

I've never shopped there by choice; and it's never, ever my first port of call for anything; I find their whole system utterly frustrating.

Unfortunately we're losing our co-op department store this summer so I might be forced in their direction.

    *sigh*

Yep, firmly on my avoid list now. Won't be a huge loss to them I'm sure but my boy is about to move into his own flat and I'd planned a few purchases from them (Microwave, chest of drawers etc), you can bet your bloody life they won't be from Argos now anyway ;):D
  • I avoid Argos home delivery after they cancelled an order without telling me and then got really uppity when I complained about it. We had to rearrange the delivery, wasting a lot of time, and they were really obnoxious on the phone and when they finally brought what we'd ordered.

I'm beginning to despair of any delivery at the moment, having just had a rubbish experience with John Lewis as well.

    Smallish update to this.

Despite raising complaints with Argos I've been firmly ignored. I hit back by posting to SodaStream's Facebook warning people not to buy from Argos.
Had a lovely DM from SodaStream telling me they had now added free shipping for 4 syrups or more so not only am I getting my root beer I;m getting 4 of them for only a little more than Argos wanted for three!

Big praise Sodastream. Argos, you still suck monkey balls ;)

I would NEVER have thought of finding their Facebook page.

In fact, this and 'the razor' thread have made me realise just how scared SOME companies are of negative feedback online.
