Hi all
OK, I'm going to try and put together a coherent post – so tired, it's just not funny! I had to get Mr LW to pour me out a dose of morphine liquid at 02:15, the pain was that bad.:(
TTFTM I do so feel for your DD; being unwell/in pain is one thing, but it's a whole lot worse when you don't know what's wrong. I hope she can get some definitive answers, and therefore some appropriate treatment, soon.
Halight I hope you're feeling a little better than you were earlier.
Jools (((HUG))) sometimes a good cry is cathartic; I hope this was the case for you. Life seems to have kicked you in the teeth good and proper, and tbh, I don't know how you've stayed as strong as you have, mate.
Judi I reckon a lot more people will start using couriers, with this sneaky increase in parcel post. Let us know how you get on; I very rarely have to send parcels anywhere, but would certainly want to use another method than Royal Mail if I needed to, I think.
Mary's here for another week – I hope our supply of newspaper lasts out!:D She's been pretty good the last few days *touches wood * but she scuffs the paper up with her dodgy back leg and it ends up getting torn and ragged, so we have to replace it.
Once she's left, on Friday next week, I shall have to get my skates on and clean the bungalow (just doing the best I can manage while she's here) as we're away the Saturday night (20th) – Mr LW has, in his wisdom, decided I need to spend the night of my birthday in a hotel.:A Bless him, he means well, but I'd honestly just as soon not bother – I just don't have the energy. But he's like a little boy when he gets one of these ideas into his head, and I can't bear to disappoint him.:o
Then the weekend after, Jessie Labrador is coming to stay for the weekend.:TIf your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
Hi all.
Seems a while since I've been around. I was supposed to be on the mainland today helping a dear lady scatter her late husband's ashes but she is too unwell to make the jpurney and I have an unexpected day off.
Yesterday was interesting. I am helping one of our drop-in regulars to sort out his bed-sit. Bless him. He hasn't a clue. It took two days hard graft to clean hs bathroom and yesterday I started on the kitchen.:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:
It is tiny and I couldn't get across the floor for stuff dumped there. I made him move everything off the floor and then surveyed the filthy chaos. I couldn't describe it but will say that I discovered a teaspoon buried in the burnt-on grease on the hob. Kim and Aggie had a team of cleaners behind them. Here there is only me. Anyway, I gave him a few lessons in basic cleaning methods and he got quite keen. I'm back next week to finish the kitchen but to tackle the main room is going to take every ounce of courage I can summon up.
TTFTM: Lots of loving thoughts coming your way. I do hope that they can make things right for your DD.
Jools: Those tears have been long overdue, petal. I think you are right and that having your brother around allowed you to release all that pent up emotion. You have been marvellous so far but you don't have to be marvellous all the time. x
LW: I wish I could have some of that pain for you. What a stupid thing to say, it's no help to you at all, but it's how I feel and can't think of anything more helpful to say.
I do know what you mean about having 'treats' arranged for you when what you would really like to do is to crawl into bed with a hot water bottle and a good book. The Rev does it to me, and like you I can't bear to disappoint her so drag myself out and try not to let her know how I really feel. Good luck!

Thank you so much everyone for the well wishes and hugs for my DD. It is so much appreciated

The consultant now thinks the pain is a side effect from a contraceptive injection that my DD had a couple of weeks ago. She has had terrible gynae problems since she was young, with ovarian cysts and then 2 severely abnormal smear tests both requiring surgical treatment, she has been told if she has another abnormal result, they will recommend a hysterectomy. She isn't in a relationship so does not require contraception at the moment but her doctor thought this injection may help with some "women's problems" she has developed since her previous treatments. It turns out this drug, Depo-Provera, is not recommended in depression and it has severe abdominal pain as one of its side effects. It can even lead to bone density loss and a multitude of other nasties so I am not impressed one little bit.
The contraceptive effects last around 12 weeks so I assume she will have to put up with this pain for around the same time, so she is being sent home with strong pain killers and gentle laxatives. She will most definitely never have this injection again and her doctor will get an earful about it and checking their information before prescribing.
Sorry if this is too much information but you have all been so kind, I wanted to tell you the full story and how relieved we are that she does not need surgery. Phew

TTFTM so glad your getting to the bottom of it, my DD has major problems with contraception, she doesn't seem to suit anything, the pill causes her massive side effects, just the same as your dd she is not in a relationship but at 26 is hoping to be so she needs to find something. I really worry about the rubbish we put in our bodies with contraception. Hope she feels better soon.
Big hugs for those in pain, Jools you have a good cry my love, it doesn't do you any harm, it always makes me feel much better but it does make me look shocking, I'm not a delicate cryer:o
I've had a bit of an unsettling day. The doctor is worried about my hot flashes. She doesn't think it's the menopause , but more likely an infection of some sort, possibly to do with my knee but she won't know until I've had some tests. She did mention rheumatoid arthritis which is a bit scary but I'm so fed up of feeling rubbish, at least if I get to the bottom of it I can start on some treatment. I said so shall I make an appointment for a blood test, she said no I'd like it done right now:eek: so I had lots of blood taken and she checked they had all my contact details in case they needed to ring me over the weekend. A bit scary but I'm sure they won't need to ring. I have the specialist appointment with my leg on Monday so hopefully I am finally getting somewhere.
Thanks for the info. On MyHermes, the post office prices are shocking, and if I'm to carry on doing eBay I need to find something more economical, shall go and have a look.
Bye for now xStarted Self Managed DMP 10th May 2017.

Good evening chums have been offline as my modem was a bit dodgy, but a lovely chap arrived on time from Virgin and replaced it, and even put overshoes on to go up the stairs (where my computer room is) so my carpet wouldn't get messed up. More than the boiler service chap did yesterday GRRR
But now I am back online again thank goodness.I was only off two days but it seemed a lifetime.
Jools honey you have a good howl if you feel like it why not its part of the grieving process
Moorhen I was so pleased to hear that all is well for you a worry at the time I know but prevention beats a cure
I have had my DGS Mikey for most of the day as the other two Jack and Henry were out with their pals and as Mikey is only 8 and a half he is too young to go gallivanting. We had a nice lunch of sausage sandwiches and fresh fruit and some serious games of cards and Hangman which he loves. We had to wait in for my Virgin chap to come but he was a good little boy and very chatty:):)
Tonight will be feet up and relaxing and t.v. for awhile then maybe a read of my library book if the tv is junk.I have just started The Wasp Factory by Iain Banks.
Time for dinner I think
Hope you all have a good evening and <<hugs>> for those who are poorly or just a bit down in the dumps
Cheers chums JackieO
P.S. DD and I loved Wicked' on Wednesday in London, great fun and we had a nice lunch as well0 -
Julie try not to worry too much over the weekend; look at it this way, loads of blood taken now = no appointment with the vampires later, or at least one less appointment.;) Lets hope they can get you sorted.:o
TTFTM Fwiw, I had Depo-Provera a good few years ago, and it gave me rotten side-effects also - so much so that I opted for sterilisation and be done with it. If this is indeed the cause of DD's woes, at least there's an end in sight. Coping vibes on their way to her in the meantime.:oIf your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -

I meant to say earlier, I am really a beginner at crochet too. I couldn't find a pattern that was easy to follow so in the end I watched a you tube video for double crochet as I thought this would grow quickly:T
I just cast on 100 stitches on my chain. Then chain two more, double crochet into the first stitch after the stitch in your hook and work across. When you get to the other side, turn your work, chain two and double crochet into the first stitch from the chain and off you go again.. Work backwards and forwards in the same way. Just be careful when you get to the end of a row, as it looks like your finished but the last double crochet goes into the chain slightly lower down. You can do stripes or make it longer or shorter up to you. Just make sure you always have the same number across the rows.
Hope it makes that makes! I am using pale green and white and wide free stripes and thinner white. The 100 chain is big enough for a pram or a Moses basket. Don't give up its taken me ages to work this out, but I'm now loving it.:DStarted Self Managed DMP 10th May 2017.

Please be careful with the terms for crocheting, the Americans have manged to confuse it for us.
in English
a double crochet, is where you put your hook in put the wool over pull through (two loops) and pull again through the 2 loops
A treble crochet is where you wrap the wool around the needle before you put it in, put the wool around the hook and pull through (3 loops), wool around hook, pull, through first two loops, leaving two, and then wool around hook and pull through the final 2 loops, IYSWIM
The Americans call our treble a double, and our double treble (wrap around the hook twice) their treble.
I was lucky I learnt from my Grandma who died when I was 8, and my Mum just reminded me later, still find the silk or thin cotton work very difficult, my tension is not right for that. DGMember #8 of the SKI-ers Club
Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?0
