Rip Off Britain?

What ever happened to people just doing their jobs? I am fed up with being on the receiving end of 'errors'. My bank has cost me over £200 by paying direct debits when I had cancelled them, and I recently paid a bill there in cash, but it didn't get to the recipient. A major garage seemed unable to fit a new exhaust to my Astra, which cost me £250, and I felt so unsafe that I gave the car away. My post doesn't get to me, and when it does it's too late, so I get late payment fees and I have to send all post recorded delivery because it goes missing if I don't. I put 'faulty fuel' in my car and although they 'promise' to pay for repairs, I haven't even received a reply yet. A solicitor is still dealing with my mum's estate from 1998, and has probably made a mint. Another solicitor is dealing with my Aunt's estate from 2003 and doesn't seem to be in any hurry.
I'VE HAD ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Any suggestions?

if thats the case the bank shuold refund all charges if they are at fault
if you have the recepit proving you made the payment in time, there is a chance that the company wont penalise youand I recently paid a bill there in cash, but it didn't get to the recipient.
your call, no one forced you to give the car awayA major garage seemed unable to fit a new exhaust to my Astra, which cost me £250, and I felt so unsafe that I gave the car away.
speak to royal mail, set up a PO box, keep track of when payments are due, i know my virgin media is due approx the 29th of the month or if its for credit cards set up a dd for minimum payments least then it will get there on time and you can still overpayMy post doesn't get to me, and when it does it's too late, so I get late payment fees and I have to send all post recorded delivery because it goes missing if I don't.I put 'faulty fuel' in my car and although they 'promise' to pay for repairs, I haven't even received a reply yet.
thought you said you had given the car away, or is this another one - anyway i dunno much what was arranged with the *faulty fuel*A solicitor is still dealing with my mum's estate from 1998, and has probably made a mint. Another solicitor is dealing with my Aunt's estate from 2003 and doesn't seem to be in any hurry.
find out whats casuing the hold up or threaten to take them to the law society
sorry to hear about your problems but how it can be classed as rip off britain i dunno when a few steps and most of this would be sorted0 -
I agree with Poppy,
Granted products are more expensive in the Uk. Granted there is apathy in the Uk.
However you need to look at why people feel like this. Firstly people need to stop reading scarey newspapers. The ones which always go on about how bad things are....which hardly ever is the case.
Secondly, look at the level of wealth we have generated for a tiny little Island compared to say, the USA, which is has been in financial collapse for years.
Thirdly, Australia and New Zealand are better climates but they are decades behind us in regards to social cohesion. What has Australia ever achieved? New Zealand?
We have enough, if your savvy, cash to live here and generate second retirement homes abroad. The UK is working, fast paced, progressive country. Britian may not be ideal for retirement unless you upper middle (but then you wouldnt be on moneysavingexpert if you were!) but you can bet that you can use your riterment cash abroad for a really good time.
Its becoming fashionable to slate Britain these days. Perhaps if we switched off the horrortele and the awful panicky newspaper we would probably be a better nation.0 -

Turning the TV off and not reading the Daily Mail won't achieve anything, that is the typical British attitude, "if I ignore it, it isn't there".
That is the very reason why this country is becoming such a grey, drab, over-regulated place.
The UK IS expensive and apathetic. When you get a lousy expensive meal - complain - don't just nod and mumble "it's fine". When you get lousy service, be it in Tesco or your GPs - complain ! You are paying for it.
As for, 'What has Australia ever achieved' ? where would you like me to start ?
Cricket, Olympic athletes, Tennis champions AND at least they have a Prime Minister who has the guts to stand up to that tin pot dictator Mugabe;
and the weather's better !0 -
I so agree with the OP.
I am planning to move to North Korea, where things work properly for the simple reason that if anyone makes a mistake, they get shot. Let's form a political party to run Britain on the same principles. As for the shooting, perhaps we should start with people who break the speed limit, and those who 'forget' to pay their credit card bills on time.0 -

On a practical note, there are grounds for legal action and compensation if your solicitor have taken an unduly long time to deal with your case. Contact the law society and they will call you, talk you through the issues and then get in touch with your solicitor on your behalf. I have never seen my solicitor move as fast as he did shortly after a letter from the Law Society, and hopefully he still thinks about it when faffing around wuith others' cases.
I hope you manage to resolve all your issues - I sometimes think there is a web-site where companies sign up and it suggests new and interesting way of f***ing up any request I make of them! It does make you wonder how much of your life you waste trying to rectify others' mistakes - it's all very well to say 'do something about it' but it is time consuming and frustrating to have to spend every lunch-break on the phone and every evening writing letters just to get the service you paid for in the first place!0 -
Although I live in Spain, and the cost of living is much lower (one of the reasons we live here; we have an annual income of £9.5k), I still love my country the UK and every country has its problems.
Spanish problems for example :
Nine months to get a car imported?
Five months to get the name on the rates bill changed?
And how about this : you have some of your land taken away from you to make a new road - and YOU have to pay for it!
Nowhere is perfect - just do something about those things you can do something about and don't get yourself screwed up about the others.
