We'll have to see how this pans out, I am in dire financial hardship, but at the same time, I'm terrifyingly good at adapting to such hardship, but obviously I'd very much desire not to... ¬_¬

I'll begin my escalations from the 6th of May, if nothing has progressed.
  • keep us posted mate if you don't mind as i'm in the situation of being out of the country for a while and i can't afford to ring up to chase it myself :/

Mine took 5 business days. Submitted on morning of Friday the 12th. Revived it in my account on the 18th. First time due a refund and very impressed with how quickly and smoothly it went. Then again my tax affairs are pretty simple so doubt the had much to check.

Our tax affairs are simple, And also for the past few years have taken days in fact 3 years ago took 4 day and that wasnt working days and it was for a higher amount! As they say 1 in 10 are selected for added security. They do say the checks sometimes arent about the person claiming the refund its to check there isnt people from HMRC claiming refunds in peoples names. It can be checks to see if its your bank account info if your on voters role. Thats why HMRC call staff are not allowed to tell you what the actual security check is.

Fingers crossed its soon for us all,

I've never heard of that, but then, I don't know whether it is normal or not as this is the first time I've paid THIS much attention owing to the fact that I've never waited this long to receive my refund.

How long ago did you file your return?

Hmm... still no change, somehow I don't think they'll pay up by May 3rd, but we'll see.

Although, there is a pattern I've notice, that being everyone who has filed their fifth or sixth return seems to be having this delay, leading me to believe that perhaps it isn't 1 in 10 are scrutinised for security checks, more perhaps it's after a certain number of returns that they initiate the checks.
  • mine has changed this morning from pending to bank repayment same as all the other years, it's not in the bank yet but the status has only changed in the last couple of hours so fingers crossed
