When I brought my property the vendor left a number of used cans of paint, each labelled with the room(s) in which they was used. Turned out to be really useful years later knowing which paint / colours were used when touching up minor blemishes on the walls.

I may do this on rooms ive recently decorated, so they touch up, should they not wish to decorate immediatley. Thank you

This! My vendor did this for me too - it was so useful and I plan to do the same for my buyers.

Names of neighbours (esp if they're nice!), anything useful to k know about parking (so mine includes how to find out when Chelsea are playing at home), anything which has any slightly peculiar ways of switching on. An example of this is I had a shower which had an isolator switch in a less obvious place.

Nice touch, and I wish my sellers had done this for me

Neighbours, why did i not think of that!

Would it be worth leaving telephone numbers for local council tax, water company, utility supplier etc?

Also this brings another question when we eventually move to the new home, do we have use their gas/electric suppliers? i know we have to take readings of both properties but how is supply company transferred?

Even more important to list the ones who aren't, so they can be kept at arms length!

It might require some tactful drafting to avoid writing libellous material. ;)

When we left our last house, we included a copy of the original advert from 1952, listing the last two properties for sale on the development. They were approximately 1/125 of the price we sold for! :rotfl:

Ask them if they mind first... Oldies quite like the "proper introduction" thingie, rather than a stranger shouting "Hoi Iris, howya doin?" :D

If I moved into a house with a beautiful garden i would really appreciate a few instructions on any of the plants that require special treatment. Nothing OTT, but for example "The palm on the patio will survive the winter if you just tie up the leaves and put some bubble wrap around them in the coldest months and the hydranger up the corner needs cutting back every autumn" type thing.
