I have had 4 companies in of which genius was one of them. There proposal is based on projected energy savings using pv and voltage + gas optimising units couple with LED bulbs and improving the loft insulation.

Hello Richy and welcome. Sorry to go of on a slight tangent, and I may be mis-reading this, but what is meant by voltage and gas optimising?

It might refer to voltage optimisers for PV, such as SolarEdge's power optimisers, but I've got a sneaky feeling, it means a voltage optimiser unit that is supposed to save you money by 'improving' the voltage coming into your house.

If so, then on here, for domestic use, they are not held in high acclaim, as they will do very, very little and probably never pay back.

As I said, I may be mixing up products, and hopefully have got the wrong end of the stick, but beware being 'sold up' with the addition of extra gizmo's that as a package may sound good, but aren't worth it.

    Mart.
Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

For general PV advice please see the PV FAQ thread on the Green & Ethical Board.
  • I had a shade greener come out to me. i chose them as they seemed to be recommended on the website. However after the surveyor came out I was rejected as a potential customer. Why you ask. I live in a linked detached and virtually all my neighbours have had the solar panels installed but with a different company. A shade greener wanted my neighbour to sign a disclaimer to the effect that if their installers damaged his roof he would not claim against them! Needless to say I did not expect him to comply. Any other recommendations out there please?

You could try by opening a dialect with some of your neighbours to see who they would recommend.
    2 kWp SEbE , 2kWp SSW & 2.5kWp NWbW.....in sunny North Derbyshire17.7kWh Givenergy battery added(for the power hungry kids)
  • Yes already did that but unfortunately I have missed the boat there. I contacted the company involved and they have fulfilled their quota. They are only dealing with paying customers now, no more free solar offers at the moment anyway.:money:

  • Just a quick update whilst I remember!

I have signed up with Genius last week and have had my system fitted today. Got to say that everything has gone very well from the chap who came out to the guys who fitted today. I have recommended them to some of my friends and neighbours as well. They are coming on Monday to fit Leds inside and out which my missus will be around for as I cant get anymore time off work.

Can honestly recommend this company :)

tali - I thoroughly researched Genius's proposition and even took the advice of the chap who runs the local organic farm as he ran his own pv business for 3 years. Yes the cost is more than other cheaper less reputable companies but the package comes with electrical and gas optimisation plus LED lights which have a 35000 hr guarantee. They also come and check the system every six months to give it the once over and even clean the panels. On top of this they use the six monthly verification reads to automatically switch my supply to the cheapest tariff every year. Believe me I did deliberate over this for a few weeks comparing companies and quotes as it took me a while to get my head round it all.

Not entirely sure why you would or could report this company to trading standards. Whilst its understandable that you are annoyed at receiving phone calls from them I would remind you that this site (Im a newbie so someone correct me if needed) is here to offer constructive non bias advice not to vent feelings or frustrations.

But why are they claiming it is totally free?
Why are their over excited cold callers virtually guaranteeing £40,000 worth of savings ?
And they get your details from pressuring other potential customers to give details of relatives and friends and like me each one is subjected to their cold calls. They are so blatant you can tell 100 % it is all about earning themselves commission.
