I'm so glad I got into mystery shopping 10 years ago, when you just rang the companies, had a chat and they'd put you on their books then started giving you work.

The fees used to be better too....

By the way, the company I allocate for are looking for shoppers able to visit a restaurant in Sevenoaks in November but... these are special visits that need to be done at 10pm - so if anyone fancies a late night dinner (not necessarily on weedays!), please PM me. :)
Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.

Hi all - can I get a bit of mystery-shopping-virgin advice please?

Got my first visit on Friday via Gap. I'll be going with hubby and baby and need to order the buffet. The instructions say I can take up to 4 people with me (only hubby will be eating), but that we have to order and pay seperately. How does this work when you're a married couple? Have I done the wrong thing by accepting this assignment? We were going shopping nearby anyway so I figured we could have lunch paid for!

How do I get round this so it isn't blatently obvious I'm MS-ing them?!!

One other thing. I presume that the payment is in addition to the refund for the meal and is not expected to include it? Just want to be sure.

    Any help gratefully received.

How about husband dressing smartly and then asking for a seperate receipt as he is on a business trip and the company won't pay for your meal ??

For the buffet assignments you can order 1 or 2 FULL buffets!!! You do not have to order separately but if you order more than this then you do. Be careful to order the full buffet. If you order on separate receipts then you will only be reimbursed the price of one buffet and drink whereas the spend accounts for up to 2 buffets and 2 drinks (roughly speaking- as usual GAP's maths or out so you usually end up paying an extra 50p but its worth it to get the second buffet included in the reimbursement)

    Hope this helps!

Just keep applying - they will eventually give you some work IMHO. Once you have worked for them, you get a grade for each job. The average of your grades will determine whether you can self-assign (some) jobs. Other self-assignments depend on having covert equipment of your own, or being able to tape record phone convo's. You have to have a shopper grade first, tho.

I think more and more jobs are getting self-assigned (which is great if you are already a shopper with them and not so good if you are starting out. The vast majority are still assigned by them, tho)
